Coming to Netflix This Week (August 13th – August 19th)

You have anticipated series and oodles of new Netflix Originals to look forward to this week! 

After a fairly quiet week last week, there are some impressive titles for you to queue up this week. Season 5 of fan-favorite The 100 arrives as an early treat from The CW. Older movies that are still a great watch Evan Almighty and Wish I Was Here arrive and we see a multitude of Netflix Originals arriving including the new series Disenchantment, brought to you by The Simpsons creator Matt Groening.

Alexander: The Ultimate Cut (Originally released 2004)

Arrives August 13th

Directed by Oliver Stone, this director’s cut was released for the 10th Anniversary of the movie. Starring Colin Farrell, it’s based on the life of Alexander The Great. Four versions of the film exist, the initial theatrical cut and three home video director’s cuts: the “Director’s Cut” in 2005, the “Final Cut” in 2007 and the “Ultimate Cut” in 2013. The film has a multitude of stars, including Angelina Jolie, Val Kilmer, Jared Leto, Rosario Dawson, and Anthony Hopkins

Adventures in Public School (2017)

Arrives August 15th

This oddball teen comedy stars Daniel Doheny (Netflix Original Alex Strangelove) as a socially awkward home-schooled prodigy who decides he wants to be in public school when he falls for a popular teen. The always wonderful Judy Greer (13 Going on 30) is his mother who, much to her dismay, discovers her son is getting a crash course in high school mayhem.

Hostiles (2017)

Arrives August 15th

Christian Bale stars in this Western as legendary Army Capt. Joseph Blocker, a U.S. Cavalry officer who must escort a Cheyenne war chief and his family back to their home in Montana in 1892. Embarking on a perilous journey, they come across a young widow (Rosamund Pike) whose family was killed on the plains. The travelers must now band together to survive a punishing landscape that’s crawling with hostile Comanches and vicious outliers.

The 100 (Season 5) The CW Early Release

Arrives August 15th

After nuclear Armageddon destroys civilization on Earth, the only survivors are those on space stations in orbit at the time. Years later, the survivors see their supplies diminishing and decide to send 100 juvenile prisoners back to the planet to test its habitability. The exiles find Earth fascinating and terrifying, but with the fate of the human race in their hands, they must forge a path into the unknown.

Evan Almighty (2007)

Arrives August 16th

In this spin-off of Bruce Almighty, Evan Baxter (Steve Carell) leaves newscasting behind when he wins a seat in Congress. Moving his family to Virginia, strange things begin to happen to him. Animals follow him, he starts growing an uncontrollable beard, and he begins getting messages from God (Morgan Freeman) to build an ark. Also starring John Goodman, Wanda Sykes, and Lauren Graham.

Wish I Was Here (2014)

Arrives August 16th

Zach Braff is Aidan Bloom, a struggling actor who lives in Los Angeles with his wife (Kate Hudson) and two children. After his father becomes gravely ill and stops paying for the children’s schooling, Aidan attempts to home-school his kids. As his life turns to chaos he discovers himself and his family.

Disenchantment (Season 1) Netflix Original

Arrives August 17th

From the mind of Matt Groening comes this adventure set in Dreamland, where a hard-drinking young princess named Bean, her feisty elf companion Elfo, and her personal demon Luci get in misadventures. Along the way, the oddball trio will encounter ogres, sprites, harpies, imps, trolls, walruses, and lots of human fools.

Magician Justin Willman performs baffling tricks on the street and more to the delight of kids and adults alike.

Pinky Malinky Netflix Original 

Arrives August 17th

Pinky Malinky is a 12-year-old Middle School student who also happens to be an anthropomorphic hot dog. He tries to climb up the social ladder with his two human friends, Babs Buttman and JJ Jameson. Just your average hot dog living in a human world.

The Investigator: A British Crime Story (Season 2) Netflix Original

Arrives August 19th

Often described as “Britain’s answer to Making a Murderer,” this true-crime series stars Mark Williams-Thomas, known for investigating cold cases and unsolved murders. Over the last two decades, he has been investigating major crime, including the famous unveiling of Jimmy Savile as a sexual abuser. Season 2 sees him examining a new case.
