October is the month most associated with fall and, of course, Halloween. After months of the series being on hiatus, we’ve now got Hemlock Grove clearly in our sights for its third and final season, which will land on Netflix towards the end of the month. It’s a nice Halloween treat, I hope you’d agree.

In recent months, it’s clear Netflix has been establishing a schedule for its monthly additions of original content, with each month containing a bit blockbuster TV series, a movie, and a kids show.

The first of two stand-up specials will be heading our way in October. Anjelah Johnson may be a name that you’re not familiar with so let us fill you in. Most famous for her stint on MadTV she’s memorable for playing a Vietnam sailor and a fast food worker. She’s also had success outside of MadTV, including being an NFL cheerleader.

Nowadays, Anjelah’s aiming her efforts towards standup comedy, with another standup special readily available on Netflix, Homecoming Show.

Pegged to be the equivalent of the hugely successful Netflix Original doc The Square, Winter on Fire takes us to Ukraine when in recent years things have come to a head in the region. The documentary covers events from 2013 to 2014 in the region. “Evgeny has assembled a cinematic tribute to the heroism, spirit and determination of the Ukrainian people,” says Lisa Nishimura, Netflix VP of original documentary programming.

Anthony Jeselnik is the second standup comedian to have a special heading to Netflix throughout October. If his past work is anything to go by, his show Thoughts and Prayers is sure to provoke a few reactions. Most commonly known for his Comedy Central days roasting celebrities such as Donald Trump and Charlie Sheen, he’s found a new home producing specials for Netflix.

Beasts of No Nation

This will undoubtedly be the movie Netflix needs to make it a credible threat to the traditional movie industry. Beasts of No Nation stars Idris Elba, whom you may recognize from his roles in The Wire, Luther, and a short stint on The Office.

Early reports suggest that it’s an awesome movie, with Idris receiving most of the praise for his role as a commandant and his child soldiers fighting in a civil war in Africa.
