Fears that all of the Scripps content, that came up for renewal in November, leaving Netflix have only been cut short as it’s been confirmed that their entire catalogue will be leaving Netflix on January 1st, 2017. This includes content from their networks including DIY Network, Cooking Chanel, Food Network, HGTV and the Travel Channel.
The deal in place which brings a huge range of the cable networks content to Netflix on a regular release basis is set to completely end when the new year starts, according to BroadcastingCable. It states that the network seeks a better arrangement where they can earn money from both advertising and distribution. Netflix has stated in the past that all of their content, both first party and third party, should be exclusive to the platform.
As for what will become of the Scripp shows, it’s thought we’ll see their shows available on either a new streaming service of their own or even move to a streaming platform that demands less exclusivity.
In all, 54 series will be leaving Netflix which puts quite a whole in the Netflix documentary section but Netflix hopes to fill that gap in 2017 with its own original documentary series.
