Netflix’s second Canadian co-production is now out in the wild and you may be wondering when season 2 of Alias Grace will be coming to Netflix but as you’ll find out, it was only intended to be a limited run order series and therefore won’t be coming back for a second season.

All six episodes of Alias Grace landed on Netflix internationally (excluding Canada) on November 3rd. Six hours of the tale of a young, poor Irish immigrant who was accused of the murders of her employers were released to the world set in in the mid-1800s. As you would expect, it featured some stunning visuals and some great acting from the likes of Sarah Gadon, Edward Holcroft and Anna Paquin.

In terms of season 2 of Alias Grace, it’s not going to happen. The series was touted from early on as a ‘miniseries’. What that essentially means is that the series is a one-off production. Netflix had dealt with these before and their biggest one series order will come later in November in the form of Godless. It essentially means the producers of the show looks to tell one singular story throughout a series and then move on. One of the most famous examples of this is Band of Brothers.

Series Similar To Alias Grace on Netflix

CBC also co-produced a series for Netflix called Anne with an E which has a similar style to the way Alias Grace is produced. It is, however, much different in tone. For other hard-hitting dramas and documentaries, we advise checking out Netflix titles such as NSU German History X and Making a Murder also covers similar themes but in a modern setting.

If it’s period dramas you love, check out titles such as Call the Midwife and The Crown both of which are streaming on most Netflix regions.

If you have Hulu…

If you’re a fan of Margaret Atwood’s work, Hulu may have something for you. Its award-winning series has adapted one of the writers most prolific works, The Handmaid’s Tale starring Elisabeth Moss. Best yet, that series is ongoing meaning it’s not a limited order run series like Alias Grace. These two titles doing well will surely lead to other adaptations of the writer’s novels coming to light in the future.
