It isn’t Christmas without a miracle and with a Miracle on 34th Street, you get two. The 2 Christmas classics are a highlight of the holiday seasons and are a must watch. If it’s not the Oscar-winning performance of Edmund Gwenn you can enjoy then the heartfelt performance of Richard Attenborough instead. Not to mention in the fantastic 1994 remake you have a stellar performance from popular child actress Mara Wilson.
The Plot of 1947
Doris Walker hires a gentleman aptly named Kris Kringle to replace an intoxicated Santa Claus in the Thanksgiving parade. After becoming such a smash hit with the children he is given the job of Santa Clause at Macy’s. Kris announces he is, in fact, the real Santa Claus, to which his sanity is called into question. Kris is set up, he is taken to a mental institution to be evaluated. Angered by these turn of events Doris’ partner Fred quits his job to defend Kris in court. Fred must prove to all that Kris is indeed the real Santa Claus.
The Plot of 1994
Dorey Walker hires a gentleman aptly named Kris Kringle to replace an intoxicated Santa Claus in the Thanksgiving parade. After becoming such a smash hit with the children he is given the job of Santa Clause at Cole’s. Soon all the children of New York believe he is the real Santa Claus except for Dorey’s six-year-old daughter Susan. Only if her Christmas wish comes true will she once comes to believe in Santa.
Kris soon finds himself arrested after being set up to assault the very same Santa Claus that was too drunk to do his job. Dorey with the help of her boyfriend Bryan takes the case to court. In this trial, Bryan and Kris must convince the Judge, Jury and the people of New York that Santa Claus is indeed real and that Kris is the real Santa.

Is Miracle on 34th Street on Netflix US?
Both 1947 & 1994 titles of Miracle on 34th Street are not available on Netflix US. It’s a shame that both Christmas classics are not on the streaming service but you can stream the 1994 remake if you have a subscription to Hulu. As for the original 1947 classic, you’ll have to purchase the film or rent it if you wish to stream it this Christmas.
What about other regions?
The only English speaking region outside the US streaming both films is Netflix AUS. For the UK and Canada, you’ll have to purchase the films or rent them to stream the films.
