Come with me, my friends, to a warm, sandy place. Get swept away by the tropical breezes, cocktails, and sunsets reflecting off of perfect blue water. In this place you will meet the most wonderful, cordial people in the world. And all they want to do is take care of you, make you feel at home, and make you never want to leave the plantation. Take a trip out to sea on their boat, and then have what you caught that day cooked up for you by Mama Ray. You’re at Rayburn House. It’s a family you want to be a part of. They aren’t bad people…but they did a very bad thing.

This slow-burn Netflix series starts at a crawl and steadily works its way though the affairs of the Rayburn family–unwrapping all their terrible, filthy secrets along the way. Let me tell you something, my friends, it is powerful. The suspense builds every second like the rhythm of a clock slowing moving back and forth until you think you just can’t stand it. I never knew such a gradual show could be so gripping.

Bloodline Season 3 Release Date

We now have a confirmed release date for the third and final season – May 26th.

So you’ve built up this show you think everyone should watch. Why was Bloodline canceled?

First Up:

There are a few things at play, here. The series is produced by Sony. Renewed in July, shortly after the second season debuted on May 27,  Netflix said that it would not be the final season. Shortly after, Netflix notified Sony that the upcoming season, set for 2017, would be the last season. They also cut the episode order from 13 episodes to 10, and slashed licensing fees on the show. Though both sides deny ill will, who knows? I mean, we’re still talking about that feud between Bette and Joan 50 years later.

Next: money.

The series in filmed in the Keys and is incredibly expensive. Florida did away with huge tax incentives that were keeping the film industry thriving. With lawmakers declining to inject any new money into the program keeping the money manageable (Bloodline was the last show to receive what was left of the incentives), there’s a question as to whether there was enough money to keep it going.

“We decided to set the show there … because it’s crucial to what the show is, not because of the tax incentive, but it does affect things financially for us and the show will be challenged because of that. It makes things more difficult.” -Todd A. Kessler, Executive Producer

Finally: plot.

The story that was conceived for the show seemed to be moving toward an arc that was getting resolved.

“Even when we pitched the show we had ideas for what five, six seasons of the show could be because that was very important to us to think about ‘how does this evolve season by season?’” -Daniel Zelman

What’s going to happen in Season 3?

SPOILERS: If you’ve read this far into the article and you haven’t watched the first two seasons yet, I don’t know what to tell you. You need to do some prioritizing in your life. Get on it.

We were left with SO many questions at the conclusion of the last episode.  This season viewers will get to see a lot of Danny Rayburn’s son, Nolan (Owen Teague), who will be the focus of this season. EP Glenn Kessler has refused to reveal details about the new season except to say that it will be very dark. He also hinted that the death of Danny, played by recent Emmy award winner Ben Mendelsohn, will result to more deceptions in the family that he left behind.

The second season finale had several cliffhangers. Is Meg Rayburn (Linda Cardellini) about to tell her mother Sally (Sissy Spacek) something?

Will Nolan’s secret of planning the fire that burned Danny’s restaurant down be revealed? When we last saw John, he was fleeing the Keys. Will it even be set in the Keys? And Kevin. What do we say about Kevin? You are a hot mess, that’s what you are, Kevin.

Seriously, man. I don’t even know what to say to you,.

All I know is, I can’t WAIT to see how they make this series darker than it already is.  I will be on the edge of my seat waiting.
