The majority of Disney titles which range from theatrical releases to Disney channel movies and series are mostly scheduled for removal on May 2nd. Below, we’ll list some highlights plus give you the full list of Disney titles facing the chop beneath that. To see a full list of titles leaving Netflix in May 2018 for both the US and UK, check out our tracker. We began tracking Phineas and Ferb and Little Einsteins leaving earlier this month.

Highlights

High School Musical 1 & 2

Leaving May 2nd

These two movies are what catapulted the careers of Zac Efron and Vanessa Hudgens in the Disney Channel spectacular. First released in 2006, this set of movies plays very much like a more Disneyfied version of Glee featuring all the similar tropes but arguably brought the new format to the mainstream. With a fantastic song list and cast list alike these were the must-watch movies back in the day. The third movie, as we’ll show you below, will be added next month despite the first two being removed. Also leaving is Sharpay’s Fabulous Adventure, a spin-off starring Ashley Tisdale.

Camp Rock 1 & 2

Leaving May 2nd

Talking about catapulting careers, we move onto Camp Rock which shot Demi Lovato into the limelight. Featuring a similar format to High School Musical, this movie was about a young girl who was taking part in a summer camp where celebrity singers where teaching youngsters.

Cheetah Girls 1 & 2 + One World

Leaving May 2nd

Raven-Symoné, the main star of Cheetah Girls has had a fascinating career with her most known appearances being on Disney’s That’s So Raven (not on Netflix) and The Cosby Show. One thing you probably can’t remember is Cheetah Girls which like the previous two titles is all about the music. The first movie was released in 2003, second in 2006 and third named One World in 2008.

Why are they leaving?

As with all titles from networks other than Netflix themselves, they have to license the movies and shows usually for a fixed length of time. When that contract comes up for renewal, both parties have to agree. In a lot of cases, Netflix chooses to refresh its library with newer titles and remove the older unwatched ones. Disney is currently actively building a competitor to Netflix which is also rumored to be Hulu and it’s likely all these titles will land on that platform eventually.

Are there any Disney movies coming in May?

Netflix is replacing a few of the Disney titles in May though. Coco is making its way onto Netflix later in May with older hits such as High School Musical 3 joining on May 1st as well as Bridge to Terabithia arriving on May 19th.
