‘Dracula’ Season 1 Coming to Netflix on January 4th, 2020

Netflix and the BBC have had an excellent relationship in recent years as the two networks continue to collaborate. The most recent work the two networks have been working on is the adaptation of Bran Stoker’s Dracula. Dracula is a horror-drama series co-produced by Netflix and the BBC and is based on Bram Stoker’s classic novel of the same name. Mark Gatiss and Steven Moffat are the creators of the series, serving as both the writers and executive producers. Moffat is well known for his time served as a writer on Sherlock and Doctor Who. Hartswood Films is the production studio behind Dracula, some of the BBC’s most popular shows have been produced by Hartswood films including Doctor Who, Gavin and Stacey, and Sherlock


What is the plot of Dracula?

It’s 1897, Transylvania and the noble Dracula sets his sights on Victorian London.

Will the series follow the plot of the Bram Stoker novel?

It may not follow the novel page for page but the series will hit the many of the same story beats as Bram Stoker’s classic story.

We’re a few months on since our previous update and the roles of cast members have still yet to be revealed.


Where is production up to?

Filming for Dracula concluded on the 1st of August 2019. The series is now deep into post-production as Hartswood Films add the finishing touches to the series like special and visual effects, not to mention the score.

How many episodes will the series air?

Dracula will receive three episodes. The series is being produced in the same manner as Sherlock.

What is the episode run times for Dracula?

Each episode will be feature-length and have a run time of ninety minutes. The entire season will be four hours and 30 minutes long.

Will the series be available to stream in 4K?

It’s unclear at this time if Dracula will be available to stream in 4K. It will certainly be a missed opportunity if the Hartswood Films fail to capture Dracula in such high definition.

Has a trailer been released?

Just in time for Halloween 2019, the BBC finally dropped a teaser trailer for Dracula.


When is the Netflix release date?

Thanks to the French twitter account for Netflix, we now know that Dracula will be coming to Netflix on January 4th, 2020!

Will Dracula be available globally?

Unfortunately, Dracula won’t be available to all subscribers. In the United Kingdom, once episodes air on the BBC it will be available to stream on BBC iPlayer. The series will arrive on Netflix UK eventually but not as an original.

Ireland may or may not receive the series as an Original but this will be confirmed at a later date. The remaining regions of the world will receive Dracula as an Original.

What time will Dracula be available to stream on Netflix?

Depending on which region you reside will dictate what time Dracula is available to stream in your region.

For anyone confused why you’ll not be able to stream Dracula from midnight in your region, this is because Netflix releases all of their titles at PST (Pacific Standard Time). So for fans in New Zealand that are 20 hours ahead of the PST, you don’t receive titles until late in the evening.
