Game of Thrones is still undoubtedly the biggest show going and with season 8 still a while out, we thought we’d take a look at some of the shows biggest stars that’ve worked on Netflix shows. We’ll go through each of the actors and actresses, who they are in Game of Thrones and which Netflix Original they’ve appeared in whether it’s a series or movie.

We should stress at this point, Game of Thrones isn’t on Netflix as has been the case since the show’s inception. In fact, all of HBO’s content remains away from Netflix except on rare occasions.

*SPOILERS BELOW FOR GAME OF THRONES*

Lena Headey

Stars in: Trollhunters & Danger Mouse
Game of Thrones character: Cersei Lannister

Lena Headey portrays Cersei Lannister, one of the most powerful characters in Game of Thrones, at the current point in time controlling the iron throne as the Queen of Westeros and the Seven Kingdoms. Lena has been in two children’s Netflix Original series but you may not recognize her voice at first glance. Her biggest role for Netflix has been as Morgana in Trollhunters: Tales of Arcadia, the animated series from Guillermo del Toro.

Lena also lent her voice for several episodes of the new adaptation series of Danger Mouse where she voiced Jeopardy Mouse.

Maisie Williams

Stars in: iBoy
Game of Thrones Character: Arya Stark

Maisie Williams was 12 years old when filming began for Game of Thrones in 2010. In GoT, Maisie Williams plays Arya Stark, the daughter of Ned Stark. From the beginning of the show, Arya has been one of the most significant characters, and one which has grown immensely since the start of the show. She came into her own throughout Season 7, handing out vengeance upon those that hurt the Stark family.

In 2017 Maisie featured in a lead role of the Netflix Original movie iBoy. In the movie, Maisie plays Lucy, a friend of the main character. iBoy is about a young man named Tom, who after being shot, is left with extraordinary abilities when fragments from his smartphone are lodged in his head.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau

Stars In: Small Crimes
Game of Thrones Character: Jamie Lannister

Initially hated, now a beloved character, we’ve all been on a long and arduous journey with the former Lord Commander of the King’s Guard Jaime Lannister. The character development of Jaime Lannister has been nothing short of phenomenal, and arguably one of the best character arcs of the entire show.

Nikolaj featured in the Netflix Original film Small Crime. In the movie, Nikolaj plays disgraced cop Joe Denton who was sentenced to prison who returns home to discover the fallout still exists from his actions.

Sean Bean

Stars In: Roman Empire, The Frankenstein Chronicles
Game of Thrones Character: Eddard Stark

Sean Bean was the big draw name for the first season of Game of Thrones having been known up until that point as Boromir in Lord of the Rings and Richard Sharpe in the BBC Historical-Drama Sharpe. Sean never made it past the first season but thankfully you can catch him in two other Netflix projects.

The first and most notable is his appearance in the British series The Frankenstein Chronicles. Sean also provided his voice for the narration of the docuseries Roman Empire: Reign of Blood which was added to Netflix in 2016.

Jerome Flynn

Stars In: Black Mirror Season 3, Episode 3 – Shut Up and Dance
Game of Thrones Character: Bronn

Before Jerome Flynn became a fan favorite Bronn in Game of Thrones he was mostly known for his music in the Mid 90s pop group Robson & Jerome like this gem.

Jerome Flynn featured in Netflix’s first series of Black Mirror in the episode Shut Up and Dance. Playing Hector a desperate husband who is willing to do anything to ensure his family doesn’t find out about his infidelity, spends most the episode with Kenny (also being blackmailed), carrying out the list of instructions from their blackmailers.

Pedro Pascal

Stars In: Narcos, Triple Frontier
Game of Thrones Character: Oberyn Martell

Pedro Pascal only portrayed Oberyn Martell for 7 episodes throughout Game of Thrones but was the main star in Netflix’s Narcos. The drama series tells the story of the rise, fall and capture of Pablo Escobar and among other major drug lords to which Pascal plays agent Javier Peña, who was integral in bringing down the Cartel leaders. He’s appeared in all three seasons of Narcos but did not make a return in Narcos: Mexico.

Most recently Pedro Pascal starred in the Netflix Original movie Triple Frontier. Pascal played the role of Franciso ‘Catfish’ Morales.

Jason Momoa in Frontier

Stars In: Frontier
Character in Game of Thrones: Khal Drogo

Jason Momoa’s first big break came in the form of Khal Drogo in the first season of Game of Thrones. Featuring in all 10 Episodes, the character became a fan favorite before his untimely demise. Now Momoa is most known for portraying Aqua Man in the DC Extended Universe.

Momoa’s role in the co-produced Netflix Original historical drama Frontier also pushed his popularity even further. Rebelling against the exploitive businesses, Declan Harp battles against the fur traders that have their claws deep into Canada.

Jessica Henwick

Stars In: Iron Fist, Luke Cage
Game of Thrones Character: Nymeria Sand

Jessica featured as one of the three Sand Sisters from the fifth season of Game of Thrones. Arguably the weakest narrative in the entire story of Game of Thrones, the Sandsnakes were certainly unpopular.

Jessica’s main Netflix project was her involvement in the Marvel TV series. She first appeared in Iron Fist but has since featured in The Defenders and Luke Cage season 2. The actress will also provide her voice in the upcoming Netflix Original anime series Gods & Heroes.

Nathalie Emmanuel

Stars In: The Titan
Game of Thrones Character: Missandei

Nathalie Emmanuel plays Missendei, Daenerys Targaryen’s most trusted advisor in Game of Thrones. The actress also featured in a small supporting role in The Titan which released on Netflix in 2018. The movie also stars Sam Worthington and Taylor Schilling and is largely considered a flop but may be worth a watch if you’re a fan of sci-fi movies.

Richard Madden

Stars In: Bodyguard, Medici
Game of Thrones Character: Robb Stark

Richard Madden’s Robb Stark took over Sean Bean’s Ned Stark as the leader of the North, ultimately becoming the King in the North. One of the most beloved characters of the shows, Robb’s demise tore the fanbase asunder after a particularly bloody wedding happened.

Since Game of Thrones, Richard Madden has starred in the Netflix Original series Bodyguard and Medici. In Bodyguard, Madden plays David Budd, ex-servicemen working as a Police Sergeant for the Metropolitan Police Service in the Royalist and Specialist Protection branch. Charged with protecting the Home Secretary, Budd is at odds between the policies and personality of the Home Secretary and the scars that still haunt him from his time serving in Afghanistan.

  • Kristofer Hivju who plays Tormund Giantsbane in Game of Thrones also starred in one episode of Lilyhammer
  • Ben Crompton who plays Eddison Tollett starred in the British series Marcella which came exclusively to Netflix
  • Indira Varma who play Ellaria Sand appears in Paranoid, a British series that’s an Original in the United States.
  • Aidan Gillen who plays Peter Baelish or better known as Littlefinger also stars in the British series Peaky Blinders
