Late yesterday evening Netflix announced that Grace and Frankie would be returning next year with season 2 after a relatively successful launch of season 1 on Netflix last month. Netflix rarely posts viewing figures for its shows on Netflix but given it’s now been granted a second seasonable they were obviously deemed favourable by the executives. Season 1 was a largely mixed bag for most with Decider.com not too keen on it and its metacritic sitting on 58 at present.
At What’s on Netflix we’re optimistic that it can evolve into the comedy which Netflix is in need of but right here right now, it’s not floating our boat.
On a panel yesterday the shows co-creator was thankful to the team at Netflix and a certain celebrity popstar. “Let me say, it’s so awesome to do a show on Netflix,” she said, “because two and a half weeks after we launched, Miley Cyrus does a tweet about your show, and they call and say, ‘We’d like to do a season two.’ So yes, there is a season two. We have Ted and Miley to thank.”
No more details were added but we suspect a relatively unchanged cast will go into season 2 and a launch window of April 2016.
