Will the new Netflix Original series starring Naomi Watts be getting a second season and when will it be hitting Netflix. You’ve come to the right page as we’ll be tracking its second season below as well as making an educated guess on when the second season will be coming to Netflix.
In one of the most down to earth series yet to hit Netflix, Gypsy explored some serious issues which many deal in their day to day lives. Naomi Watts plays the role of a psychiatrist who while being neglected by her husband who’s working late and suspected of cheating on her, goes out to do some exploring of her own. The series brings up issues like sexuality, drugs, raising children, relationships and a lot more. It’s not as action-packed as other Netflix Originals, but it’s got a great hook and is a great watch.
The series was first announced to be in production back in January 2016 and managed to get a slew of big names on board but most notably getting Stevie Nicks from Fleetwood Mac to record an acoustic version of the song Gypsy for the intro credits.
Gypsy Season 2 Renewal Status
Official Renewal Status: Cancelled after one season (last updated: 08/11/2017)
The show has been officially cancelled by Netflix after one short season. Although an official reason was not given it is expected to be a multitude of issues regarding the show. For one, the show wasn’t well received by critics with an average rating among most outlets. Secondly, the general buzz around the show felt pretty flat (our traffic numbers also confirm this to be the case) and thirdly, it’s expected that Netflix is reigning in on spending for underperforming originals.
With that said, the show could now be shopped to another network but given the adult themed content such a buyer would have to be either another streaming platform or the likes of HBO.
The show left us with many cliffhangers open and ultimately it’s a shame to see yet another Netflix Original cancelled in 2017.
