Your Netflix dashboard will continue looking exactly like this.

Rumours have been flying round on various media sources this week with news about a small number of users getting trialled in a new ad system which would project and advertisement before they watched their program. It’d only affect Netflix Originals and is in actual fact, very similar to the way HBO deals with its advertisements.

Last week Cord Cutter News was among the outlets which spotted the new pre-roll ads on their system and when they reached out to Netflix they received this response : ‘We are always testing new things via the service, many of which never see a rollout. We have nothing more to add at this point.’ That led us to believe that given it was a wishy washy response that there was some weight to the story.

Just before pushing it live onto the site we saw a new post from Netflix’s CEO Reed Hastings who posted this.

No advertising coming onto Netflix. Period. Just adding relevant cool trailers for other Netflix content you are likely to love.

So that settles it. We may be getting preroll ads but not in the traditional sense. They will be used to promote other Netflix Originals and programming available on Netflix. Which to us sounds like a much better deal and if it promotes similar content then we’re all for it.
