Jurassic Park will leave Netflix

Jurassic Park, which currently has all three of the original trilogy currently streaming on Netflix, will be leaving Netflix US on September 1st, 2016 for good.

If you’re thinking: “Hang on, didn’t they just add all the Jurassic Parks?” You’re right. Jurassic Park one, two and three were added on June 1st which bolstered a massive movie lineup for the streaming service. It joined Netflix after an announcement saying that Netflix had been listening to your pleas for better movies on the service. It arrived with a couple of the Fast and Furious movies as well as being joined a month later by the Back to the Future trilogy. The Fast and Furious movie is also scheduled to be leaving on September 1st, 2016.

The movie franchise that shook the movie scene in the 90’s is famed for its breakthrough use of CGI and special effects creating something that hadn’t been seen up until this point in history. It played with the idea that we could bring back dinosaurs and put them in a theme park for tourists. As you can probably tell, things didn’t go all too well.

Why is it leaving? Well as with all third party content on Netflix, it’s down to content arrangements with the distributors and in this case, Universal. Jurassic Park was only advertised to be on Netflix as part of the summer lineup which technically will end as soon as September rolls around (gulp). We must admit that it’s weird to see a movie series come and go so quickly as normal contracts on Netflix usually last for around a year. With the recent release of Jurassic World though and a sequel on the way, it’d probably cost Netflix a fair bit to keep the three movies streaming on the service.

Some would argue that three months to watch three movies is ample time but really those who will be most disappointed is those that watch movies over and over again.

We’re yet to hear whether or not Back to the Future will be leaving too but if it does, it’ll likely leave on October 1st but we’ll keep you up to date with any news on that.
