One Day at a Time season 2 is here and so far, the reception to the latest season has been overwhelmingly positive. Season 3 is inevitable and we’ve got all the details you need to know about the next season plus a potential release date too.

Loosely based on the series from the 70’s and 80’s, the series is based on a family struggling to make ends meet in American.

Season 2 dropped on Netflix on January 26th, 2018 with 13 new episodes and it came almost exactly a year after the first season meaning that the production is on a strict yearly schedule.

The series is a comedy sitcom but sets itself aside from other Netflix Original comedies such as The Ranch and Disjointed by being more about family and is much more lowkey. It’s more comparable to Fuller House which is also a rebooted show like One Day at a Time.

Has One Day at a Time Been Renewed for Season 3?

Official Renewal Status: Not yet renewed (Last updated: 01/26/2018)

It’s rare for Netflix to announce future seasons of a show as they often assess the success of the current one before making decisions. In the case of One Day at a Time, it usually takes around two months from release for Netflix to decide whether the series is going to be renewed.

What influences the decision? It’ll come down to return on investment for Netflix, so the best way you can influence the renewal decision it to simply watch the show.

Netflix Release Date for Season 3?

As we discussed above, if the renewal date occurs in the next couple of months, it’s safe to assume that Netflix will be releasing the series one year from season 2. As you may have calculated that means that season 3 will likely land on Netflix in January 2019 at the earliest.

It’s also possible the series could adopt the same release schedule as The Ranch and Disjointed where it splits the seasons into two. This would work well with this type of show.
