Collider announced that the Power Rangers will soon be hitting Netflix with their powers even though it has been present on television screens for more than two decades. As time goes on, content is moving across to cable, premium and digital platforms so it’s no surprise that Netflix is top of the pick list.

The 24th season of the Power Rangers will be based on Japan’s series Shuriken Sentai Ninninger and will be called Power Rangers Shuriken in the US. If you are a fan of the Power Rangers, you’ll have no problem with the fact that the Netflix co-production will contain 32 episodes in 2017. Not to mention that the series will have a ninja theme too.

Saban Brands, the owner of the Power Rangers, announced that they extended a deal with Nickelodeon and Bandai America for 2016 but once 2017 comes around and season 24 is ready to hit the screens, the show will be exclusively available on Netflix.

Netflix has become increasingly popular so it’s the obvious choice to be the next big platform for such a successful programme. Saturday morning cartoons are no longer available but Netflix can provide a long-term home for the Power Rangers.

In other news, the franchise has a big-screen installed, which is due to come out in January 2017. This will be directed by Dean Israelite and includes Naomi Scott as the Pink Ranger, Dacre Montgomery as the Red Ranger, Ludi Lin as the Black Ranger and RJ Cyler as the Blue Ranger. However, it seems the Yellow Ranger has not been cast to date.

Saban Entertainment distributed  the Power Rangers from 1993 until the end of 2001 when Fox took over and broadcast the programme until 2002. Disney however, purchased the franchise as part of a buyout. This then meant that the Fox Family Worldwide became ABC Family Worldwide Inc. Since 2002, all series of the Power Rangers have been on different Disney-owned networks such as ABC Kids, Toon Disney and Jetix.

The show has been going since 1993 and recently celebrated an impressive 800 episodes. Netflix will enable viewers to watch the new series at their leisure, but for now we have to play the waiting game until it’s time to sit back and enjoy the action.
