Seasons 1-3 of Heartland Removed From Netflix

Heartland on Netflix – Picture from CBC

Seasons 1 to 3 of Heartland, the popular Canadian drama has left Netflix in most regions today. Season 4 through 11 remains on Netflix in most regions. Here’s what we know.

Updated (01/06/2019): Netflix has since re-added all three of the first seasons of Heartland.

We cover many shows from across the world here at What’s on Netflix and few get the same attention quite like Heartland. It’s an incredibly popular show all around the world and for most, Netflix is the only convenient way of watching.

Up until now, Netflix has been streaming the majority of seasons despite always being around one or two seasons behind the main airings in Canada.

Where has Heartland left Netflix?

The majority of countries have now lost the first three seasons of the show. This includes the United States and the United Kingdom which both saw the series lose the early seasons on January 4th, 2019.

Why has Heartland seasons 1-3 been removed?

We don’t know as of yet as Netflix hasn’t released anything official. Usually, Netflix tends to remove older seasons of shows because each season is licensed separately. That means every year, Netflix has to pay to keep every season streaming.

What does this mean for seasons 10 & 11 on Netflix?

The United States is still two seasons behind on Heartland meaning it’s yet to receive both season 10 and 11 at present. The United Kingdom got season 11 added in the summer of 2018.

This could mean that future seasons won’t come to Netflix but the chances are more likely that Netflix decided to simply not relicense the first three seasons for another year.

The removal hasn’t gone unnoticed by fans either:

We will, of course, let you know if anything changes or we get word from either Netflix or CBC on the subject but in the meantime, we’ve compiled a list of other titles you may like if you enjoy Heartland.

Are you disappointed Netflix no longer has the early seasons of Heartland? Let us know in the comments.
