One of the best Netflix Originals to come out in the past couple of years is The Crown. The multi-award winning television show has garnered praise worldwide and audiences across the world are waiting in anticipation for the release of season three. Here is everything we know so far about The Crown’s new season.
There are many popular and fantastic Netflix Originals on Netflix. None have captured the hearts of audiences more than Netflix Original The Crown. The show is a dramatized adaptation of the life of Queen Elizabeth II, her relationships with her family, and the politics behind being the queen of an empire.
The events of the series take place over many years and include notable landmarks in the Queen’s life such as her wedding to Prince Phillip, the death of her father King George the VI, and her subsequent coronation, as well as some of the most notorious events in the British Empire’s history.
What happened at the end of Season 2? *SPOILERS*
The finale of season 2 focused on the infamous Profumo Affair. It was a scandal that shook British politics to its core. Secretary of State War John Profumo had been in an affair with the model Christine Keeler. Keeler had also been in an affair with Soviet naval attache Eugene Ivanov.
Seen as a threat to national security, the scandal resulted in the resignation of both Profumo and Prime Minister Harold Macmillan. The man who introduced the pair Stephen Ward committed suicide.
The narrative of the show focuses on both the Profumo Affair and the scandal of Prince Phillip who supposedly was in attendance to the party where Keeler was introduced to Profumo. While Queen Elizabeth struggles with controversies surrounding both her husband and the inadequacies of the British government she gives birth to her 4th child.

Where are we up to with production?
Filming has begun on The Crown and Netflix has released some stills back in July with some of the cast dressed in their roles. The fourth season is currently being written by creator Peter Morgan.
According to Stewart Clarke at Variety the sets for the show are being upgraded too. For this reason, both the Buckingham Palace and Downing Street sets will see a significant upgrade. Production company Left Bank has a 10-year plan for the expansion of the set, paving the way for further seasons if Netflix extends beyond season four.
How has the Cast reacted?

What is the cast of Season 1 and 2 doing now?
Leading lady Claire Foy gained international recognition for her role as Queen Elizabeth II. Her performance as the Queen earned her an Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Drama Series. Foy recently portrayed Janet Armstrong in First Man as the wife of astronaut Neil Armstrong. Foy has also been cast to play Lisbeth Salander in the movie adaptation of The Girl in the Spiders Web. It will continue to be a busy time for the actress as she is now one of the most in-demand actresses in Hollywood.
Matt Smith was already well renowned for his work as the 11th Doctor on famous British Sci-Fi series Doctor Who. Smith’s work in science fiction will continue as he has been cast in the latest episode of the Star Wars saga. Notably, Smith has also been cast as Charles Manson in Charlie Says.
BAFTA award-winning actress Vanessa Kirby recently starred in the sixth Mission Impossible film as ‘The White Widow.’ Kirby has also been cast in the Fast and Furious spin-off Hobbs and Shaw which will focus on the characters that Dwayne Johnson and Jason Statham portray in the franchise.
There currently isn’t a trailer for season 3 yet but we’ll make sure to update this page when it drops!
When is the release date for Season 3?
We know the show is currently in production but there hasn’t been a confirmed date as of yet. The expected release date is fall 2019.
Will there be a season 4?
As stated earlier in the article creator Peter Morgan is already writing the story for season four. Production of both seasons is ongoing. We can expect an earlier release date for season 4.
It is expected that the Crown will have a total of 6 seasons but depending on the success of season’s 3 & 4 will see if Netflix renew for another 2 seasons. The Crown is one of the most expensive shows in history so the next 2 seasons will need to be a massive success like Seasons 1 & 2 to warrant the cost of any subsequent seasons.
