For those that didn’t skip the excellent new Australian Netflix Original series Secret City, you’ll probably be scrambling for information on the second season. We’re happy to report that a second season is already in production and will eventually come to Netflix. Here’s what we know including a possible release date.
Although the series is dubbed as a Netflix Original, it’s actually produced and aired first in Australia. This isn’t the first Netflix Original series picked up from Australia. The biggest to date has been Glitch with other well-known staples of the Netflix library such as Kazoops! and Beat Bug.
The first season arrived on Netflix in June 2018 in most regions around the world but actually first aired back in Australia back in 2016.
The first season was meant to be a limited mini-series based on the novels of The Marmalade Files. It stars Anna Torv, Damon Herriman, Daniel Wyllie and Alex Dimitriades.
Renewal Status
Official Renewal Status: Officially renewed by Foxtel back in February 2018.
The series got its thumbs up by Foxtel and Matchbox Pictures back in February and started filming soon after. The majority of the cast will be returning include Anna Torv and Jacki Weaver. Two new cast members have also been announced including Danielle Cormack and Rob Collins.
It’s worth noting that the fact Secret City got a further season was the reason why Netflix picked it up for international distribution. It doesn’t tend to pick up ‘Limited Series’ from providers but it does produce them regularly.

When will Secret City Season 2 be on Netflix?
Sadly, no release date has been announced for the series in Australia as of yet. We don’t foresee Netflix getting new weekly episodes of this show and instead will drop every episode of season 2 in one go shortly after the series wraps.
At this point, we’re envisioning a fall release for the series in Australia with a possible late 2018 or early 2019 Netflix release date. Once we know the exact release date on Foxtel in Australia, we’ll update our predicted date above.
