The Haunting of Hill House has been a massive success on its opening weekend on Netflix. If you’ve gone through all 10 episodes already, you’re probably looking for whether Netflix is going to renew for season 2 and when it’ll be on Netflix. Here’s what we know.

Netflix has dabbled in horror series up until this point but has mainly relied on the likes of American Horror Story for its horror lineup. This show has changed the game.

The show comes from Mike Flanagan who has become a legendary horror director in recent years with hits like Ouja, Hush and more under his belt. Mike is currently scheduled to be working on a sequel of The Shining as he discussed in a recent interview.

Does the story warrant a season 2?

Spoilers below

While there are still a few loose threads, most could and are making the case the series ended with a satisfying conclusion. The story ended on a bittersweet note with the death of the Crain’s father Hugh, he had reunited with his Wife and Daughter and in death, they could be together forever in Hill House.

The Haunting of Hill House Season 2 Renewal Status

Official Renewal Status: Not yet renewed/Pending (Last updated: October 14th)

The series was only given an initial order of a season and as you’re probably thinking, it’s a little early for Netflix to announce a renewal just yet. It typically takes a couple of months for Netflix to decide on whether to give a show the thumbs up for another season.

The metrics used to decide a renewal includes how many people watch the show, how many people stuck to the end and its review scores from both critics and users. Netflix doesn’t reveal its metrics so we’re reliant on other signals to see the show’s success.

Another thing Netflix will look at is whether Mike Flanagan will move on from the project. When speaking to Collider, Mike Flanagan said it was hard to let others direct parts of the show saying “Ultimately, I did it, and it was the hardest thing that I’ve ever done. I don’t know that I could ever do it again. It’s brutal. “. This could suggest that Mike could take a more hands-off approach going forward with another story especially since he has more projects on the go.

When would season 2 release on Netflix?

Given the show’s genre and the fact season 1 landed in Halloween, it’d be safe to assume that season 2 would arrive roughly at the same time. Assuming the show gets a timely renewal, we might expect season 2 to arrive in October 2019 but at this point, that’s just speculation.

Do fans want a season 2?

The nature of the ending (as discussed above) has left fans somewhat split on whether the magic would be lost on the second season. Most fans agreed that they wanted more, but that they just didn’t know exactly how season 2 would work.
