The Ranch is one of Netflix’s most popular sitcoms on Netflix but as you may have heard, Rooster is no longer going to be in the show having been written out during part 5. We’re going to look as to how integral he was to the show and whether it can survive without him.

Rooster has been a big part of the show since the first episode. Played by Danny Masterson, Rooster was basically the other half to Colt Bennet, played by Ashton Kutcher.

Why was Danny Masterson fired?

Danny Masterson has been embroiled in a sexual assault allegations. It has already resulted in him being dropped by the talent agency that manages him and subsequently his character on the Netflix show too.

The actor stated that “From day one, I have denied the outrageous allegations against me. Law enforcement investigated these claims more than 15 years ago and determined them to be without merit.”

He’s yet to convicted of any wrongdoing.

This all happened in the year where #MeToo was at its height. The allegations were made back in the early 2000’s.

It’s been by far and away one of the biggest controversial decisions Netflix has made. Kevin Spacey last year also faced a similar set of allegations and he too has been removed from his show, House of Cards. They also cut ties with Louis C.K last year over similar allegations.

How was Rooster killed off?

Fortunately, Rooster wasn’t actually killed off per say and the writers left it open enough to see the return of Rooster. The character was given two choices to take the bag and disappear or be killed. It was a serious threat and Rooster chose to take the bag and disappear. Danny Masterson was clearly holding back the tears during the scene.

Will the show survive without Rooster?

At this point, it’s still too early to tell what will happen now. There are plenty of plot points already set up for part 6 but you could argue he was one of the pivotal roles in the series. Many have already pledged to boycott future seasons. If enough people stop watching because of this the likelihood is that the show will face the axe.

Could Rooster ever return?

As we mentioned above, there’s definitely scope for a rooster return although it’s not likely. He was more banished from the show than permanently written off. The star has vowed to clear his name from the allegations and should he clear his name, there’s an obvious way of including the star.

In case you didn’t know, part 6 of The Ranch is due out later this year so get watching part 5 now in case you haven’t already.

Now over to you, do you think the show will continue without Rooster being in it? Let us know down below.
