Welcome to your preview of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt season 3! We’ll cover all the latest developments, casting information and release schedule for the Netflix Original. The NBC show turned Netflix show has proved to be a big hit for Netflix since it first released in 2015.

Here’s everything we know about season 3 of Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt.

Season 1-2 Recap

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Plot

Created by Tina Fey,  Ellie Kemper (The Office) is Kimmy Schmidt, a naive woman who was held captive by a doomsday cult leader (Jon Hamm). After being rescued, she decides to reclaim her life and goes to New York. Being underground for 15 years has not put a damper on her wide-eyed enthusiasm for life, and we get to experience the world through her rose colored glasses.

How is this going to make me smile?

Kimmy is dropped in New York with virtually no life skills. So we have the whole ‘fish out of water’ thing going for us. Her virtuous interpretations of not-so-innocent big city situations is not a new story. But her sunny enthusiasm for life and the people in it never wavers, no matter the predicament. Plus you get to hear a lot of funny phrases like “What the ham sandwich?!” and “Hashbrown, no filter.” I’m not going to lie. The theme song is going to get stuck in your head forever. But you’re not going to mind. Everyone else will be singing it, too.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 3 Details

What can we expect in Season 3?

The first two seasons were filled with fantastic guest-stars, absurd situations, more pop-culture references than you could count, and as much wit and fun as you can handle. Season 3 is bringing even more. Several guests stars will be featured, including Daveed Diggs, Laura Dern, Ray Liotta, Andrea Martin, Maya Rudolph and Rachel Dratch. Returning guest stars include Anna Camp, Mike Carlsen, Josh Charles, David Cross, Amy Sedaris, and Tina Fey.

Some plot details have also been revealed:

“Kimmy finds herself in an unfamiliar position with the Reverend back in her life. Titus returns from his cruise and auditions for an exciting new role. Lillian has to break up with her boyfriend Robert Durst.”

The return of the Reverend (Jon Hamm) to ask Kimmy for a divorce is sure to provide plenty of uncomfortable situations. It looks like they have taken all the things we loved about the show and kicked them up a notch. I can’t wait!

Season 3 Casting

All four of the main cast including Ellie Kemper, Tituss Burgess, Carol Kane and Jane Krakowski are back in season 3. As we mentioned above, Jon Hamm who was absent during season 2 will be reprising his role in season 3.

It’s not known whether Ki Hong Lee who played Dong Nguyen will be coming back after he played Kimmie’s love interest for a while.

Fred Armisen has been confirmed to be appearing in the first episode of the new season. Additional cast members this season (according to be IMDB) include Sonya Harum, Olivia Khoshatefeh, Rachael Meyers and Michael Washington.

Beyond that, the show’s creators have been tightlipped about additional guest stars throughout season 3 so we’ll just have to wait and see.

Season 3 Teaser Trailer Breakdown

The teaser trailer released on February 13th has everything we come to expect from Kimmie’s sidekick Titus. His flamboyancy won’t be going anywhere it seems for season 3 with him imitating Beyonce for the first part of this trailer. It also implies we’re going to get more singing segments which were a highlight last season. Most importantly, though, it reveals the release date.

Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Season 3 Release Date

As announced in the above teaser trailer, season 3 arrives Friday, May 19, 2017. Each year, the series has been released a month after it’s previous. Season 1 was released in March 2015, season 2 in April 2016 and this year in May. Whether this release pattern will continue for future seasons is unknown.

We’re super stoked to be getting more Kimmy Schmidt and we hope you are too.
