The Umbrella Academy is a Netflix Original superhero-drama series based on the comic series of the same name created by Gerard Way. Published by Dark Comics, the superhero series has a popular fan following despite its lack of volumes. The nature and tone of the season are expected to be darker but still have plenty of comedy throughout. It comes weeks after Polar debuted on Netflix, another Dark Comics exclusive to Netflix.
In the year 1989, 43 infants were inexplicably born to women that were not pregnant the day before. Seven of these children were adopted by Sir Reginald Hargreeves. The billionaire industrialist adopts these children with the intention to train them to become earth’s saviors. Upon entering their teenage years, the team disbanded and each of them went their separate ways. When Dr. Hargreeves passes away, the team reunites after many years for his funeral. The estranged family still struggles to see eye to eye, but the six remaining members of the team must set aside their differences when the world is at risk of an impending apocalypse.

For anyone confused why you’ll not be able to stream a show from midnight everywhere, this is because Netflix releases all of their titles at PST (Pacific Standard Time). So for fans in New Zealand that are 21 hours ahead of the PST, you don’t receive titles until late in the evening on Friday.
