Law & Order: Special Victims Unit is leaving Netflix. You still have to time to binge, but get started now.

A spinoff from Law & Order, Law and Order: Special Victims Unit is a wildly popular show. It has nineteen seasons. That’s a lot. It is the current longest running scripted non-animated U.S. primetime TV series and is the fourth-longest running scripted U.S. primetime TV series on a major broadcast network. The series is set in New York City and often follows current events.

Why is Law & Order: SVU leaving?

As discussed in other articles, Hulu has been steadily building a huge television library. They have struck deals with most of the big players in the TV industry including FOX and Disney-ABC.

In September they made a deal with NBCUniversal that gave them exclusive rights to shows, including the back catalog of Will and Grace, which had never before been streaming on any platform. That’s a big deal. It also granted them access to old and new shows. Staples that have been on Netflix for years have been making to move. 30 Rock was removed from Netflix and migrated to Hulu in October. The hit show Parenthood will be streaming on Hulu early next year.

Hulu currently carries Law & Order, Law & Order: SVU, and Law & Order True Crime. Although there hasn’t been an official announcement, I expect they will now be the exclusive home to these shows.

When will Law & Order: SVU leave Netflix?

The Netflix SVU catalog was limited. In January 2017, Netflix lost a single season of Law & Order: SVU, but on January 1, 2018, the remaining four seasons (Years Fourteen to Seventeen) will be leaving.

Could Law & Order: SVU make a return to Netflix?

Unless a special deal is made, all signs point to no. NBC shows have been trickling out of the Netflix catalog.

Alternatives to Law & Order: SVU on Netflix

If you still need your crime procedural drama fix, Netflix still has you covered with plenty of options. NCIS has many seasons and many episodes for you to gorge on. Other shows that may fill the void are Sherlock, Longmire, Criminal Minds, Broadchurch, and Person of Interest.

Are you a Law & Order fan? Would you consider adding Hulu to keep the binge going? Let us know in the comments.
