To the delight of many, the popular Showtime show Penny Dreadful was added to Netflix on July 3rd 2016 but as you’re probably well aware, Netflix only secured the first two seasons, leaving the third and indeed final season unavailable to Netflixers, at least at the moment. We’re going to take a look as to why season 3 of Penny Dreadful isn’t currently streaming and as to when it will probably start streaming on Netflix.
If it’s news to you that season 3 is the last season of the short lived drama then I’m truly sorry to be the one breaking it to you. The relatively short lived show had huge potential but ultimately just didn’t cut it as budgets surpassed what Showtime was likely getting out of the show. It’s a horror series to its roots, that acts as an anthology and contains plenty of supernatural elements with lots of cameos from iconic monsters. The series set in Victorian London, focused on four people who come together to rid the world of evil supernatural threats.
All is not quite lost yet though, as a group of fans have created a petition that’s recently hit 10,000 signatures in the hope that Netflix might revive the series somehow to tell those lost stories.

Over to season 3 and when it’ll be on Netflix. The final season that was 9 episodes long wrapped up on 19th June 2016, just a couple of weeks before the first two season were added to Netflix. Our guess is that the deal was made well ahead of time for the first two seasons to be added meaning that it’d be refreshed in yearly cycles allowing the users to catch up before starting the next new season.
Now the show is cancelled though, Showtime is more free to do what it wants with the final season. Our guess is that Showtime will pump out a complete box set this year and leave it from the Netflix library while that generates income. We can then firmly predict that Netflix will be refreshed with the third and final season in July 2017 with an even earlier release date than that also likely.
