Is Seasons 1 & 2 of The Strain

With season 3 of The Strain currently airing on FX, fans have been frustrated by the fact they have been unable to catch up with seasons 1 and 2 of The Strain on Netflix. But why is that? Netflix has always been fairly good at getting ahold of FX shows including the likes of Bob’s Burgers, Archer, Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The League, American Horror Story and Louie to name but a few. We’re going to take a look as to why Netflix doesn’t currently have the streaming rights in the US and we’ll also take a look abroad too.

Let’s take a quick step back and see what all the craze is about with The Strain. FX has been the king in recent years giving a new lease of life to a tired horror genre. Horror movies have been slammed in recent years for being too predictable which after all, that’s half the charm of a great horror movie. With American Horror Story, FX found an untapped niche and is capitalising on it with The Strain and other FX show, Tyrant.

Although part of the charm is the mysteriousness of The Strain is the fact we don’t know too much about what’s causing all these people to die, we can tell you that it comes from the mind of Guillermo del Toro.

As we’ve mentioned above, Netflix has a solid library of FX titles but it doesn’t look like The Strain will be one of them. You see, FX splits up its licensing across two streaming networks but nowadays all of its brands new content seems to be opting for Hulu Plus to be their choice of where to put their shows onto streaming. That means, as of right now, Hulu is and will remain the exclusive home of The Strain at least for a few years.

Although the success of American Horror Story on Netflix is quite substantial Netflix seems to prefer more family-friendly shows such as those produced from The CW and putting a preference on their own produced content.
