A few weeks ago, our message box was full of people asking as to whether Thundercats is on Netflix. The chances are you already know that at the moment, Thundercats isn’t available on Netflix across any region that Netflix operates in. That includes both the 80’s series and the revived version which aired in 2011 to 2012. We’ll have a look into why in a moment.
The original 80’s series was praised for being way ahead of its rivals at the time. Created by Tobin Wolf, the series first aired in 1985. It featured a group of heroic cat-like humanoid aliens and for most, was a staple of many childhoods. In 2010 it was announced that a revival would be coming that aired in 2011 but was short lived only managing to get 1 season under its belt.
Why isn’t it on Netflix then? For that, we have to look at the distributor of the show. In this case, Warner Bros Television is the distributor. While they do have some of their live action series and movies on Netflix, they’ve chosen to keep their animation content well clear of Netflix and that doesn’t look to change anytime in the future.
If you’re willing to go elsewhere for your Thundercats fix then Amazon Prime is your home for the brand new series. You can watch the original series on the WB Kids Go app.
If it’s 80’s animation you love, then Netflix’s recent revival of Voltron may be right up your alley. Voltron: Defender of the Universe was airing around the same time as Thundercats was but has been chosen by Netflix to get revived partly down to an existing relationship with Dreamworks. Sadly, Netflix isn’t a very good source for old cartoons opting instead for cartoons mostly from the noughties instead.
If anything changes, we’ll let you know first here on What’s on Netflix.
