Who would have thought that the Marvel universe would expand this quickly to even give more minor characters like Agent Peggy Carter her own show?

Marvel’s new strategy seems to be saving the big guns, such as Iron Man, the Hulk, Captain America, and Thor, for movies but expanding the universe for lesser-known characters for the television series format. ABC announced back in 2014 that it was working on a full series format for the show Agent Carter to complement Agents of Shield, which airs every fall.

Of course, ABC isn’t alone in creating Marvel programming, with Netflix joining the roster earlier this year with their first new original series, Daredevil.

If you’re unfamiliar with Agent Carter, here’s some background information on the show. In the first Captain America film, Agent Carter was the love interest for the captain, but it was also clear that there was a lot more to her character. Agent Carter, set in the 1940s, follows her on some of her top secret missions and living the life of a single woman in America. We meet the original Jarvis and a returning appearance for Tony Stark’s father. The show recently renewed for a second season and is expected to start airing next January.

A lot has been said and done since we first wrote this article back in July 2015, and with a year on, the show has gone through cancellation as well as had a massive fan petition to get the show reinstated onto the service as a full Netflix Original.

When Ted Sarandos was questioned about the show’s revival hopes he quashed any attempt at getting a season 3 of the show. Asked why they wouldn’t renew they show Ted said : “We’re looking for truly original brands to own, and in that Marvel space we already have [original comic book shows] – so that was mostly why.” adding “They (ABC) also have some output deal complexities. So when you pick it up, being able to pick it up globally is difficult even after it’s canceled. Some of those output partners still had it on the air, so they would argue their output covers it [deals]. Unfortunately, it was a business decision more than a creative one.”

So that’s season 3 out of the question, but will seasons 1 and 2 of the show ever come to Netflix? Sadly, it doesn’t look like it will, given the complex deals mentioned earlier. Although as time passes, Agent Carter will likely be able to come to Netflix at some point but for now at least, you’ll have to stream it elsewhere.
