Godless Netflix Series

Godless season 1 is now out in the wild, and if you’ve streamed through all of seven released episodes, you may be wondering whether there’ll be a Godless season 2.

Let’s start by saying we’re here to bring you the bad news that Netflix will not produce season 2 of Godless. We’ll get onto why in a bit.

Just a quick recap for those not familiar with the show. Netflix announced the show earlier this year and slowly released snippets of information. We knew roughly what the plot would include and the talented cast, which includes Jeff Daniels, Jack O’Connell, Michelle Suzanne Dockery, Merrit Wever, Sam Waterson, and Kim Coates.

The series has been particularly praised as a women-driven Western which is one of the first of its kind. With both critical acclaim and the series scoring a 5-star review on Netflix itself, it’d make sense for Netflix to produce a second season surely? Wrong.

Much like how HBO produces its shows, Netflix is sometimes opting to give series a limited release run. HBO has done the same with hits such as Band of Brothers and The Pacific, and increasingly this year, Netflix has been following the same with hits as recent as Alias Grace.

Netflix replaces season number with ‘Limited Series’

Netflix, from the offset, has stressed that this is a limited series, which means any potential for a sequel wouldn’t come in the form of a series.

Given the open nature that the series finale left us with, though, we suspect Godless may return in another form as wished for by Jack O’Connell when he spoke to TVGuide. He stated: “I’m hopeful they make Godless 2,” which surely suggests he may know something that we don’t.

Given how well the finale played out in an almost 90-minute season finale, we think that Netflix may produce a movie to follow up on the show and close off those unanswered questions. As for a particular release date, don’t expect it to be anytime soon.

We’ll update this article should we get further news about a potential season 2 or sequel. Do you want to see more episodes of Godless? Let us know in the comments down below.
