5 Movies To Watch For The End of School

The school year is wrapping up! No one cares about math and reading any more, you’re counting down the days, and vacation is just a whisper away. Get ready to say goodbye to your teachers and hello to sweet freedom. If you’re not already totally amped, here are 5 movies to heighten the mood! To you parents: Our thoughts are with you and may the odds be ever in your favor.

Grease

Wholesome Sandy (Olivia Newton-John) and bad boy Danny fall in love at the beach, but they must regretfully part ways when the summer ends. When they unexpectedly discover they’re attending the same school for their senior year, they discover their friendships and school politics have them at odds. Grease has it all! Dancing! Singing! Super cool jackets! And the best darn end of school carnival ever.

Adventureland

Jesse Eisenberg stars as a recent graduate who is forced to take a low-paying job at an amusement park after his dream summer plans are dashed. Prepared to endure a miserable summer, he discovers his time at the park may just be the perfect preparation he needs for the real world that awaits. Co-starring Kristen Stewart and Ryan Reynolds, it’s a funny, charming look at the uncertainties we face as we’re entering adulthood and the journey that gets us there.

The Sandlot

New kid in town Scotty Smalls arrives just in time for the end of the school year. He’s anticipating a lonely summer until he meets Benny, who takes him under his wing and introduces him to the neighborhood boys and their kingdom: the sandlot. Together they play baseball, have sleepovers, and get into the usual sort of shenanigans boys that age get into. That is, until they get into the BIGGEST pickle any of them had ever seen. Long live The Beast!

Can’t Hardly Wait

Finally done with school, a graduating class has one last blowout before the journey into adulthood. Every clique is represented, from the prom queen (Jennifer Love Hewitt) to the nerdiest of nerds, as they spend the night partying, reconciling their time spent together, and discovering just who they really are. Can’t Hardly Wait is a who’s who of  “before they were stars,” including Peter Facinelli, Lauren Ambrose (Six Feet Under), and Jason Segel. Sticking with the usual teen angst comedy formula, it’s a fun party.

Into The Wild

After graduating as a top student and athlete, Christopher McCandless (Emile Hirsch) rejects convention and his parents wealth. He decides to give away his savings and go on a pilgrimage to Alaska in search of himself. Based on the nonfiction book of the same name, it details the adventures and people McCandless encounters on his journey to self-discovery. Nominated for two Academy Awards, it includes great turns from Kristen Stewart, Catherine Keener, and Vince Vaughn.

Happy summer and congratulations, graduates!
