Last month may have been a bit quiet, but things are certainly picking up for Netflix in May.

It’s that time again where we take a look at the new content headed your way next month. May is dominated by strong standup specials, but there is a new Disney title headed your way as well as an Indie that really deserves a look. There are some great returning titles you’ll want to add to your list as well including The 40-Year-Old Virgin, Amelie, and Hachi: A Dog’s Tale. (Hachi is so wonderful. Watch that one with tissues.)

For a full look at all of the selections coming next month check out our May list and don’t forget to check out our series highlights.

Scream 2 arrives May 1st

5. The Standup Specials

John Mulaney: Kid Gorgeous Live at Radio City Netflix Original (May 1st)

Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife Netflix Original (May 13th)

Tig Notaro Happy To Be Here Netflix Original (May 22)

Steve Martin and Martin Short: An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life Netflix Original (May 25th)

There are so many great specials headed your way this month I just couldn’t choose. Netflix has lined up a month of powerhouse comics, and this list doesn’t even include all the specials. If you love comedy you’re going to be happy this month.

4. Cargo Netflix Original

Arriving May 18th

Martin Freeman (The Hobbit, Black Panther) stars in the dark movie about a father trying to protect his family after they are stranded in rural Australia after a violent pandemic. Infected by the virus, he now must find a new home for his infant child, and a means to protect her from his own changing nature.

3. Bombshell: The Hedy Lamarr Story (2017)

Arriving May 31st

This is a wonderful example of truth being more fantastic than fiction. Hedy Lamarr, who was called “the most beautiful woman in the world” and starred alongside Hollywood giants like Spencer Tracy, Jimmy Stewart, and Clark Gable, was screen siren by day and inventor by night. At night, after shooting her scenes on set, she works on a secret radio system that will allow the Allies to torpedo Nazi U-Boats with deadly accuracy during World War ll.

2. Disney·Pixar Coco Disney Early Release

Arriving May 29th

Based on the Mexican holiday of the Day of the Dead, this film is the story of a 12-year-old boy named Miguel who is accidentally transported to the land of the dead, where he seeks the help of his deceased musician great-great-grandfather to return him to his family among the living. It’s the first-ever big-budget motion picture to feature an all-Latino cast.

1. Small Town Crime

Arriving May 19th

This picture didn’t get a lot a fanfare with its release but is definitely worth a spot in your queue. John Hawkes stars as an alcoholic ex-cop who stumbles across a body. Making it his mission to find the murderer, he finds himself in a world of trouble he never bargained for. The film is full of great actors, including Octavia Spencer and Robert Forster, all putting forth rock solid performances.
