Now, let’s run you through the best new movies added to Netflix between July 6th and July 14th.
Marry Poppins Returns
Genre: Comedy, Family, Fantasy, Musical
Director: Rob Marshall
Cast: Emily Blunt, Lin-Manuel Miranda, Ben Whishaw, Emily Mortimer
By now, everyone should be familiar with the titular character of Mary Poppins. The nanny made famous by Disney decades ago returns in 2018 along with many other Disney classics either rebooted or remastered in recent years.
The musical saw plenty of ups and downs and looks absolutely stunning although many would still argue the original reigns supreme.
Point Blank (2019)
Genre: Action, Thriller
Director: Joe Lynch
Cast: Anthony Mackie, Frank Grillo, Marcia Gay Harden, Christian Cooke
Runtime: 86 min
On Friday, the big Netflix Original movie of the week came in the form of Point Blank. Starring Anthony Mackie and Frank Grillo the movie sees the two pair up to try and save one of their pregnant wives in the emergency room.
Reviews have been mixed for this title as you’d probably expect from a title in this genre. It’s a fun movie that’s certainly deserving a watch but perhaps not any major awards.
The Iron Lady (2011)
Genre: Biography, Drama
Director: Phyllida Lloyd
Cast: Meryl Streep, Jim Broadbent, Susan Brown, Alice da Cunha
Runtime: 105 min
Language: English
Awards: Won 2 Oscars.
Last weekend, Netflix added the 2011 biopic of the ex-British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher played by Meryl Streep. The double Oscar-winning movie tried to accurately portray the controversial British leader and eight years after its release remains a fantastic movie.
4L (4 Latas)
Genre: Comedy, Drama
Director: Gerardo Olivares
Cast: Jean Reno, Hovik Keuchkerian, Susana Abaitua, Juan Dos Santos
Runtime: 104 min
Language: Spanish
Our foreign movie pick of the week (which could’ve quite easily gone to Cities of Last Things) is 4L or 4 Latas.
The movie could easily be compared to Fox Searchlight’s Little Miss Sunshine as it sees a road trip in a hunk of junk car. The movie written and directed by Gerardo Olivares sees plenty of laughs as they band together against the elements to visit one of their dying fathers.
Looking ahead to next week, there are a few good movies on the horizon such as Obsession, the Netflix Original thriller coming on Friday, we’ll also see another Disney release next week too.
