Director: Noah Baumbach
Cast: Scarlett Johansson, Merritt Wever, Adam Driver, Laura Dern
Runtime: 136 min

Eyeing top spot on our weekly list here and eyeing plenty of awards come award season is Netflix’s, Marriage Story. Featuring Adam Driver and Scarlett Johansson, this drama will take you through a whirlwind of emotions throughout the course of the movie.

Documenting a breakdown of marriage it shows the ups and downs (mainly the downs) of going through a divorce and all that comes with it with the added downside of a few thousand miles between them.

Love & Basketball (2000)

Genre: Drama, Romance, Sport
Director: Gina Prince-Bythewood
Cast: Glenndon Chatman, Jess Willard, Chris Warren, Kyla Pratt
Runtime: 124 min

One of the December 1st additions we didn’t fit in our last week’s highlights is Love & Basketball. Featured by Netflix’s Strong Black Lead account, this movie is a little lighter than the aforementioned Marriage Story.

The romance movie was written and directed by Gina Prince-Bythewood and tells the love story of two people who have a love of each other and basketball.

Austin Powers Trilogy

The Mike Myers comedy trilogy Austin Powers continues to be some of the funniest movie moments and on December 1st, Netflix got all three movies.

Telling the story of the shagadelic spy who takes numerous assignments namely bringing down Doctor Evil. The movies hold up well and it’s always nice when Netflix has every movie in a franchise and you’re able to binge them all right now.

War on Everyone (2016)

Genre: Action, Comedy, Crime
Director: John Michael McDonagh
Cast: Alexander Skarsgård, Michael Peña, Theo James, Tessa Thompson
Runtime: 98 min

Added to Netflix in the middle of the week is this underrated cop comedy featuring the talents of Michael Peña and Alexander Skarsgård. It tells the story of two bent cops who meet their match when they try to get their way with a criminal who doesn’t play ball.

It got generally good reviews and hopefully will get the audience it deserves now it’s on Netflix.

That’s all we have, for now. We hope we’ve helped you pick a new movie to watch this week and if not, perhaps we’ll have better luck next week.
