It Comes At Night – Picture: A24
Welcome to your weekly recap of our top picks of the best new movies and TV series that arrived on Netflix over the past week. We’ll take you through all the new additions for the weekend and the past week in a post tomorrow.
Now usually, we do a separate post for the best new TV series and best new movies. Because this week was very quiet when it comes to new releases, we’ve combined the post.
In total, only 19 new releases hit Netflix this week with the bulk being foreign titles. While we’ll feature a foreign title or two in this post, we’re going to be taking you through the best English speaking titles below. We’ve also been cataloging the new Christmas content.
It Comes At Night (2017)
Genre: Horror, Mystery
Director: Trey Edward Shults
Cast: Joel Edgerton, Christopher Abbott, Carmen Ejogo, Riley Keough
Runtime: 91 min
There were two horror movies added to Netflix this week but the one worth mentioning is It Comes At Night by A24 films.
The movie comes from the creator of the 2015 horror smash hit Krisha and is about an abandoned home in which two families occupy with increasing tensions given the threat that lurks outside.
Joe Morgenstern from the WSJ said the film is “Taut, smart, intense and genuinely scary”
Outlander (Season 3)
Genre: Drama, Fantasy, Romance
Cast: Caitriona Balfe, Sam Heughan, Duncan Lacroix, Tobias Menzies
Outlander is one of the best new additions to Netflix in 2019. It’s a licensed show from SonyTV that first airs on Starz. It’s a fantasy period drama series that adapts the Diana Gabaldon novels telling the story of time-crossed lovers.
Here’s what you can expect diving into season 3 of the series:
Centuries apart, Claire and Jamie struggle to move forward with their lives while haunted by memories of their lost love.
Although Netflix US is still a few seasons behind, we’re predicting we should get more episodes at some point in the new year.
6 Underground (2019)
Genre: Action, Thriller
Director: Michael Bay
Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Adria Arjona, Mélanie Laurent, Ben Hardy
Runtime: 128 mins
Netflix’s year-end movie lineup has been immense and while we’ve still got The Two Popes to go, Netflix’s big blockbuster of the winter is 6 Underground.
Ryan Reynolds plays a very Ryan Reynolds character as one of six agents trying to take down a brutal dictator. It’s got explosions and car chases galore and frankly, it is just a good movie to watch. It won’t be winning awards but it’s perfect for a weekend movie.
Zero Hour (2018)
Genre: Drama, Nollywood
Director: Robert O. Peters
Cast: Richard Mofe-Damijo, Alex Ekubo, Ali Nuhu, Rahama Sadau, Eucharia Anunobi, Ene Oloja
Runtime: 60 min
On Friday, Netflix dropped a bunch of movies from “Nollywood” which is the African equivalent of Hollywood. While we won’t go into too much detail about all of them, if you’re wanting to get a taste for the genre, we recommend giving Zero Hour a go.
The hour long movie is about a father passing and what happens to his retail empire once he’s gone and an investigation into his companies affairs ongoing.

That’s all the highlights from the past week. As we mentioned, a very quiet week for new releases which is definitely getting rectified over the next week or two. As always, you can see all the new Netflix releases here.
