As the month draws to a close, we take a look back at April 2016 and pick out the top 10 titles that have graced our queues this month and there has been so many goodies that trying to narrow it down to just ten has been a bit of a chore. You know you’ve got an action packed month when you’re knocking Bob’s Burgers, Lost Girl and some of the great movies that came on April 1st.

Once you’re done here, why not take a look at what’s coming to Netflix in May 2016.

10. Patton Oswalt: Talking for Clapping (2016)

Patton Oswalt has been in the headlines twice this month, once for his release of his first Netflix Original stand-up performance but unfortunately that news was eclipsed with the sad passing of his wife. Patton Oswalt is the king of story telling and it really shows in his new show exclusive to Netflix. In this show performed in San Fransisco, he covers the old getting into drugs, gay proms and a horrible clown he had for his birthday once.

9. Team Foxcatcher (2016 – Documentary)

Team Foxcatcher is the next big Netflix Original documentary you absolutely have to watch, particularly if you’re a fan of the Making A Murderer series. The new documentary sets to tell the true story surrounding Dave Schultz and John Du Pont in 1996. It comes just a few years after Steve Carrell took the role in the 2013 movie, Foxcatcher.

8. Minions (2015)

The fandom behind these yellow terrors is immense. Perhaps the biggest pull for kids this month has been the 2015 movie where they depart from the name of Despicable Me and go at it alone. The movie sees the Minions look for a brand new villain to work for after they’ve seemingly killed all their previous owners. While it’s certainly not as good as the Despicable Me movies that have come before it, it does play a lot of fan-service and is a real treat to keep the kids busy.

7. The Ranch (Part 1)

This is Netflix’s biggest comedy hit of the year so far. The Ranch captures the heart of family that’s not often present in most shows. It’s funny at times with some grounded characters. It stars Ashton Kutcher and Sam Elliott. The laugh track may put some viewers off but part 1 has certainly got our attention and with season 2 now confirmed and part 2 expected sometime later this year, it’s a great debut for The Ranch.

6. V For Vendetta (2005)

An absolute cult classic was added to Netflix on April 1st. V For Vendetta is the 2005 movie starring Natalie Portman, Hugo Weaving and Stephen Fry. It’s a alternative reality where London is a police run state and extremely corrupt. It’s down to V, along with his Guy Fawkes mask to bring down the establishment. It’s one of those movies that are just so different from others on the market and therefore a rare treat and we’re pleased you can now experience it on Netflix.

5. Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt (Season 2)

The return of Kimmy Schmidt is a welcome one. She returns along with Titus and Jacqueline to once again to explore what life is like after the bunker where she was kept for over 15 years. The season places a greater emphasis on its supporting cast but once again, it’s the main characters that bring the lines and attitude which we know and love. Season 3 has already been confirmed so it’s a perfect time to jump into Unbreakable.

4. Animaniacs – 4 Volumes (1997)

animaniacs

Can you hear that? It’s your childhood calling! You can now stream all of the Animaniacs episodes on Netflix which is a massive win for Netflix and a great show to reminisce to. The Warner Brothers produced series was among the very best kids show the network had to offer and it ran between 1993 and 1998 and while you can’t stream every single episode just yet, it’s a great start and your next binge watch.

3. E.T The Extra Terrestrial (1982)

extra-terrestrial

ET The Extra Terrestrial is still, after the 100’s of films he’s been a part of, one of Steven Spielberg’s finest. It’s pure story along with the cute and adorable little alien, this is one to watch with the family. There’s really not more to say about this timeless and classic movie.

2. How To Get Away With Murder (Season 2)

How To Get Away With Murder is that show that hooks you and keeps you hooked long after the credits roll. The shows premise is for a law professor to take a more practical hands-on approach for how she teaches her students when 5 of her students get involved with a murder plot. It’s a solid show and with new seasons rolling onto Netflix in a promptly fashion, it’s one of the best places to watch the show. It’s won many awards and is one of the few shows on ABC actually worth watching nowadays so we suggest you jump in on this now.

1. The Shawshank Redemption (1994)

shawshank-redemption

Rated as the best movie ever created, it’s hard for us not to put The Shawshank Redemption at the number 1 on this list as it was added on April 1st. It takes place in a prison where corruption is rampant yet two unlikely friends bond in prison and without getting into spoilers for those who still haven’t seen this, they manage to set their wrongs to rights. Perfect movie to Netflix and Chill with and most importantly, just an excellent movie that Netflix is sorely lacking.
