Eighth Grade

Happy Friday and happy March! We round up all the new titles and take a look at a few highlights from the past seven days.

It’s a new month which means a larger list of content than usual, including a lot of titles returning to Netflix. Don’t overlook the older movies. Just because they have a few miles on them doesn’t mean they aren’t worth a look. In addition to the usual, there are definitely a couple of standouts that have been added this week.

Let’s start with one of my favorites from last year, Eighth Grade. Directed by Bo Burnham, Elsie Fisher stars as an introverted and awkward teen finishing her eighth-grade year. This film is so raw and personal, it can be almost painful to watch at times. Fisher completely nails her role. It has won and been nominated for numerous awards, including a Golden Globe nomination for Fisher and Writers Guild and Directors Guild of America Awards for Burnham.

Next up is The Boy Who Harnessed The Wind. Against all the odds, a thirteen-year-old boy in Malawi invents an unconventional way to save his family and village from famine. Based on the true story of William Kamkwamba. This is quite an uplifting story and a great watch for the whole family.

Last up is La La Land. The Oscar-winning movie stars Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone as two people drawn together by their passion for life. It’s an old-school musical for the modern day filled with irresistible performances.
