Hap and Leonard

Happy Friday! We round up all the new titles and take a look at a few highlights from the past seven days for Netflix Canada.

Welcome to the weekend. March continues to bring quite a few more titles than we saw last month. This week brings lots of options including a Disney movie (watch your Disney options while you still can) and a few older titles that are still good for a watch.

As far as new titles go, let’s start with my favorite addition this week, After Life. Ricky Gervais stars as Tony, a man in the throes of grief after losing his wife of many years. He doesn’t know how to take care of himself, is suicidal, and becomes angry. He decides to start saying whatever he likes, no matter the consequences. It’s funny and touching.

Next, let’s talk about Hap and Leonard. This is like a best-kept secret show that more people should be watching. It’s a bit of a slow burn and but you get invested in the characters. I really don’t know why more people aren’t talking about it. Based on the novels by Joe R. Lansdale, James Purefoy (The Following) and Michael Kenneth Williams (The Wire) have incredible chemistry. Each season has a different, dark mystery.

Finally, I recommend Formula 1: Drive to Survive. Let’s just get this out of the way: I do not enjoy motorsports in any way. But this look behind the scenes of racing is captivating. There’s drama, excitement, emotion. I did not expect to enjoy this series as much as I did. Serious fans may not find it as luring as I did. But isn’t what goes on behind the scenes so much more interesting than who wins the race?
