Welcome to the weekly roundup of the new titles to hit Netflix in Canada over the past 7 days. September is shaping up to be a great month for titles on Netflix. Let’s take a look at some of the highlights that have arrived over the past few days. I’ve seen each title listed and would personally recommend them.

Let’s talk movies. The Resistance Banker is a Netflix Original based on the life of banker Walraven van Hall, who financed the Dutch resistance during the Second World War. In Nazi-occupied Amsterdam, a banker risks his family and future by creating an underground bank to fund the resistance to slow the Nazi war machine. If you aren’t watching movies because they have subtitles, you’re really missing out. This film was selected as the Dutch entry for the Best Foreign Language Film at the 91st Academy Awards and is worth a watch.

The Land of Steady Habits stars a familiar Netflix face, Ben Mendelsohn (Bloodline). He’s a man in crisis. His son has graduated, he has been married for years, and he is in suburbia death. He decides to shake up his life. Leaving his job and family, he gets a condo and waits for freedom to transform him. It does not go as well as he thought it would. Mendelsohn is great as always, going through a painful journey trying to restart his life. Costars Edie Falco, Connie Britton, Elizabeth Marvel, Thomas Mann, and Bill Camp are all excellent in this compelling watch. Add this to your watchlist.

On the series front, two very popular shows got new seasons. BoJack Horseman is back for another round of self-loathing living. But he gets a break this season: he’s starring in a new show. This may be the year for redemption.

American Vandal is back with a new school and a new crime. I don’t think I need to say anything about this show. I believe the trailer tells you all you need to know.
