Black Panther

Welcome to your weekly roundup of what’s new on Netflix in Canada. This week included a new month and with it quite a few new additions. In addition to a very in demand Marvel movie, there are quite a few notable older titles, and new seasons of great series as well. You have a lot of great watching ahead of you this weekend.

Let’s start off with the biggest movie to hit the service this week, Black Panther. A massive hit for Marvel, Black Panther is the story of a man who is heir to a very advanced but hidden civilization. After the death of his father, he must return home to claim his kingdom and protect it from a challenger who threatens not only his empire but all of humanity.

Now let’s have a chat about oldies but goodies. This week brings a big list of movies that are older but still very worthy of a watch. The always hilarious Bridesmaids starring Kristen Wiig as reluctant but dutiful maid of honor is now streaming. And who doesn’t love early Mark Wahlberg? He stars in the movie Fear alongside a young Reese Witherspoon as a boyfriend that’s just a little too clingy. Like, crazy stalker clingy. It’s a definite popcorn watch.

Labyrinth is a fantasy must-see. Starring Jennifer Connelly and David Bowie, a 16-year-old girl is given 13 hours to solve a labyrinth and rescue her baby brother when her wish for him to be taken away is granted by the Goblin King.

On the Originals front, Sierra Burgess Is A Loser stars Shannon Purser, also known as Barb from Stranger Things (I always KNEW she was still out there!), as a smart if slightly shy high school girl who gets involved in a relationship with the school jock via a wrong number text. Think of it as a modern-day Cyrano de Bergerac.

Moving to series, there are several to look at this weekend. Season 2 of Atypical is now available. Starring Keir Gilchrist, it follows the life of a young man on the autism spectrum and how his need for more independence affects his family.

We also got new seasons of Family Guy, Once Upon A TimeQuantico, Cable Girls, and Iron Fist, among others.

Iron Fist details the life of Danny Rand, a boy who survived a mysterious plane crash that claimed the lives of his extremely wealthy parents and was rescued by warrior monks. Trained to be a fierce warrior, he returns home as a man to take the helm of his family’s company and restore order.

You have a lot of great watching ahead of you this weekend on Netflix!
