Selfless (2015) new on Netflix today

It’s Friday and that means two things. First, it’s the weekend so rejoice! Secondly, a brand new batch of new releases on Netflix including plenty of new Netflix Originals including the second season of Mindhunter. Here’s a rundown of everything new on Netflix for August 16th, 2019.

This list only applies to Netflix in the United States although you’ll find most Netflix Originals are global. We’ve also got dedicated lists for what’s new on Netflix UK and Netflix Australia.

Let’s take you through some of the biggest additions for the day and then give you the full list of new releases before looking to what’s leaving over the weekend.

Self/Less (2015)

Genre: Action, Mystery, Sci-Fi, Thriller
Director: Tarsem Singh
Cast: Ryan Reynolds, Natalie Martinez, Matthew Goode, Ben Kingsley
Runtime: 117 min

Ryan Reynolds will soon be starring in Netflix’s most expensive movie to date in the coming months with the release of 6 Underground but for now, we’ve got this 2015 sci-fi thriller to enjoy.

Although it was critically panned by the critics (something most sci-fi movies seem to be prone to), it does feature two great performances from Reynolds and Ben Kingsley.

The plot is somewhat similar to Altered Carbon where an older man transfers his consciousness into a younger body but doesn’t result in the ending they were hoping.

MINDHUNTER (Season 2) Netflix Original

Genre: Crime, Drama, Thriller
Cast: Jonathan Groff, Holt McCallany, Stacey Roca, Hannah Gross
Awards: 1 win & 7 nominations.

After almost a two year wait, Mindhunter season 2 has finally arrived. We’re once again headed back to the 1970s tasked alongside the FBI agents trying to get in the heads of some of the most prolific serial killers.

Season 2 sees big changes taking place at BSU. Critics weren’t able to get early access to this season but by all accounts, if the first season is anything to go by, we’re in for a treat.

Invader Zim: Enter the Florpus (2019) Netflix Original

Genre: Animation, Action, Adventure, Comedy, Drama, Family, Fantasy, Horror, Sci-Fi, Thriller
Director: Young Kyun Park, Jhonen Vasquez, Hong-Seung Yoon
Cast: Olivia d’Abo, Justin Roiland, Mo Collins, Fred Tatasciore
Runtime: 71 min

Netflix’s second Nickelodeon movie pickup for August 2019 was Invader Zim. Like Rocko’s Modern Life, it sees a TV movie special for the old 90s series.

In this title, Zim is returning to Earth empty-handed with his leaders dismissing his claims about Earth.

Blue Exorcist (Season 1)

Genre: Animation, Action, Drama, Fantasy, Horror
Cast: Nobuhiko Okamoto, Bryce Papenbrook, Jun Fukuyama, Johnny Yong Bosch
Runtime: 30 min
Language: Japanese

Netflix has managed to get back the first season of Blue Exorcist, a popular anime series. Although we’ve got no idea whether the current second season (currently
