December continues to be a great month for Netflix Originals but some great older titles have been added this week, too!

Happy weekend and happy holidays, streamers! Are you getting everything done in time for the holidays? Don’t forget to take some time for yourself and family in the midst of all the rush. In addition to all of the new titles this week, some mentionable older titles have been added as well. Your kids will love The Indian in the Cupboard (1995). It’s a magical movie perfect for this time of year. A couple of other great titles are Silver Linings Playbook (2012) and The Theory of Everything (2014). Both are perfect for a movie night.

Below are my picks for the week. I have seen them all and would personally recommend them.

For your convenience, a full list of the titles added this week is at the end of this article. To keep up with new additions be sure to follow our What’s New page, updated daily.

Jeremy Renner stars in ‘Kill The Messenger’ available now on Netflix.

Perfume Limited Series Netflix Original

This grim German murder-mystery series is inspired by the book and movie Perfume. In a different twist, when a singer is found murdered with her scent glands excised from her body, detectives probe a group of friends who attended boarding school with her. The group of close friends were obsessed with scent and experimenting with it. It took me most of the first episode to begin getting into the series, but once I did I was hooked. It’s a great binge. (Sidenote: If subtitles aren’t your thing, this series has a particularly great dub. Great for people like me that can’t always keep their eyes on the screen.)

Ellen DeGeneres: Relatable Netflix Original

In her first stand-up special in 15 years, Ellen DeGeneres still manages to have a completely fresh and hilarious take on even the simplest of things. Even when she’s reminding us she’s super-rich, she manages to balance that out with a reminder that she’s really just as vulnerable and sometimes dumb as the rest of us. I adored this special and think you will, too. (I watched this with my older father who famously can’t sit still for an hour to watch a tv show, much less a movie. He watched it all and loved it.)

Springsteen on Broadway Netflix Original

If you’re a fan of The Boss then this new special is a much watch. Recorded during his celebrated 2018 run on the Great White Way, this sees Springsteen recount his life and career through spoken word and song. He’s alone and ‘unplugged’ and telling stories between songs. I have to admit I personally had a bit of a problem with the spoken portions because he frequently walks away from the mic. He would have done better to have a headset. But if you love the music you’ll love this, too.

Bird Box Netflix Original

Academy Award winner Sandra Bullock leads an all-star cast that includes Trevante Rhodes, with Sarah Paulson, and John Malkovich in this new Netflix Original thriller. When a mysterious force decimates the world’s population, only one thing is certain: if you see it, you take your life. Fighting to survive, the struggle culminates in one last battle against nature for survival. This hasn’t been getting a lot of love from the critics, but it kept me interested to see what would happen from beginning to end.
