While it’s a quiet week as far as originals and new titles go, there’s no shortage of great movies to watch on Netflix this weekend.

Happy New Year! Are you just a touch grumpy because you had to go back to work at a weird point in the week after all the celebrating? Well, it’s Friday now and you can relax knowing you can recover with a weekend of binging.

While it has been a quiet week for Netflix Originals and new movies, a large number of fantastic older titles dropped on the first. I’ll touch on a few on those as well as a couple of new titles you should check out.

For your convenience, a full list of the titles added this week is at the end of this article. To keep up with new additions be sure to follow our What’s New page, updated daily.

Monty Python and the Holy Grail is streaming now on Netflix.

Lionheart Netflix Original

I must admit I was not aware of this dominant movie industry until now. This is the first Nollywood film to purchased and Genevieve Nnaji is the darling of Nollywood, Nigeria’s multi-billion dollar movie industry. After having spent two decades as a successful actress, she now moves behind the lens. In this first Nigerian Original Netflix film, a young woman steps up to run the family business and prove herself in a male-dominated world. This was a warm and fulfilling film most worthy of a spot in your queue.

Comedians of the World Netflix Original

If you’re a lover of stand-up as I am, get ready for a whole lot of fun. This series doesn’t just a have few comedians but a few comedians from 13 countries. I can’t say that I’ve seen them all yet, but I’ve made a dent and so far it has been a fun time.

A Series of Unfortunate Events: Season 3 Netflix Original

The poor Baudelaires just can never seem to catch a break. We’ve been waiting quite a long time to see what happens to this little family in the clutches of the evil and infirmed. I think you’ll be quite happy with this last installment of the orphaned one’s lives. P.S.: Unfortunately, you’re at the end.

First Of The Month Highlights

While this week saw a few new titles, the biggest plus was a drop of older titles that absolutely deserve a look this weekend.

Bill Hicks

Bill Hicks ‘Revelations’

Bill Hicks is certainly one of the finest, most controversial, and darkest comedians ever. He lived a life too short and his stand-up should be appreciated. He has two specials on Netflix this month, Revelations and Sane Man. He’s on the plane with George Carlin and if you like comedy you should give this man a listen.

Cool Hand Luke

‘Cool Hand Luke’

What’s cooler than cool? Paul Newman. Sentenced to two years in a Florida prison farm, he doesn’t play by the rules. With an unbreakable will, his bravado, even in the face of repeated stints in the prison’s dreaded solitary confinement cell, make him a rebel hero to his fellow convicts.

East Of Eden

East of Eden

Based on John Steinbeck’s epic novel, James Dean stars in Elia Kazan’s superb adaptation. Cal, the son of a California farmer, feels that his father cares only about his brother, Aron. When Cal embarks on a business venture to gain the favor of his dad, he finds himself dealing with his estranged mother, now the owner of a brothel, and tensions in the family rise even further when he begins to fall for Aron’s girlfriend, Abra.

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull

JUST KIDDING!

I wouldn’t do that to you. Never. I love you all too much. Don’t watch this. It may melt your face off.

Pulp Fiction

‘Pulp Fiction’

Several storylines are interwoven in this gangster tale. John Travolta breaks out in this stellar role as Vincent Vega. It’s an all-star cast woven with other Tarantino films. Samuel L. Jackson, Ving Rhames, Uma Thurman, Bruce Willis, Harvey Keitel, Tim Roth and more make this a movie you absolutely must see.

The Departed

‘The Departed’

Based on the true story of Whitey Bulger, South Boston cop Billy Costigan (Leonardo DiCaprio) goes undercover to infiltrate the organization of gangland chief Frank Costello (Jack Nicholson). This is a fantastic film that should be on your list this weekend.
