New This Week on Netflix: June 23rd, 2017
New week, new titles. There are plenty of reasons to stay in the cool and out of the heat this weekend. The best reasons are on Netflix.
GLOW: Season 1
Based on the short-lived ’80s wrestling league for women, GLOW stars Alison Brie as a down-on-her-luck actress who ends up auditioning as a last resort. Also starring Marc Maron, GLOW is winner with a great synth-heavy soundtrack and all the leotards you could ask for.
In 1970, 19-year-old William Powell published “Anarchist Cookbook” – a manifesto and bomb-making manual that sold more than 2 million copies. This film centers on an individual who essentially launched a weapon of mass destruction and had to live with the consequences. Although he still has a defiant glint in his eye, the impression we’re left with is a man in denial.
Nobody Speak: Trials of the Free Press Netflix Original
Netflix’s latest documentary begins with the Hulk Hogan sex tape scandal that brought down Gawker, but ends up covering something so much bigger. The effect of big money on journalism at large in America. It’s a cautionary tale that is especially relevant now.
This charming animated tale is the story of a teenager unhappy with being kept close to home. With the help of her grandmother, she discovers the world and the power she has to change it. This movie is great for both kids and adults, with plenty of laughs included.
