New This Week on Netflix: May 18th, 2018

Published on EST

From zombies to comedy, you’re sure to find something great to watch this weekend on Netflix.

It’s Friday! I know you are probably busy preparing your enormous hat for the big wedding tomorrow, but you must have something to watch while you’re setting up. While you’re getting out the china and making finger sandwiches, take a look at the great selection of titles Netflix is serving up this weekend.

As with each Friday’s list, I have seen them all and would personally recommend them. For your convenience, a full list of the titles added this week is at the end of this article. To keep up with additions be sure to follow our What’s New page, updated daily.

James McAvoy stars in Wanted, streaming now.

Cargo A Netflix Film

We’re all familiar with zombie films. This one is a bit different. Martin Freeman stars as a father trying to protect his family amid a violent pandemic in the wilds of Austalia. He becomes infected and now must search for someone to raise his infant daughter, all before he submits to the illness. It’s an intense emotional drama with a lot of suspense. The performances from the lead characters really shine and pull you into the narrative. If in the mood for a horror movie, you’ll be disappointed. But if you’re up for an affecting journey, you’ll appreciate it.

The 40-Year-Old Virgin (2005)

Steve Carell stars as an affable but innocent single guy who spends most of his free time playing video games and curating his action-figure collection. His well-meaning friends decide it’s time for him to take a chance and find love. This film is hilarious and deserves a spot in your queue. OH, KELLY CLARKSON!

Ali Wong: Hard Knock Wife Netflix Original

Ali Wong isn’t your usual female comedian. That’s a good thing. In the midst of her raunch and boisterous presence, she has a unique voice. In her second original special, she talks about motherhood and marriage as only she can. She has a way of taking topics that have become tired and worn in the hands of other comedians and making them funny again. You should definitely be spending time with her this weekend.

The Kingdom (2007)

Federal agent Ron Fleury has one week to assemble a team, infiltrate and destroy a terrorist cell. Culture shock and opposition from local law enforcement combine to hinder his progress and that of his elite team but a sympathetic Saudi police captain becomes an unexpected comrade-in-arms. Directed by Peter Berg, this is your popcorn film for the weekend. It has a lot of action, a fast pace, and tons of great actors including Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman, and Jamie Foxx.

13 Reasons Why Netflix Original

Your wait is over. Picking up where Season 1 left off, we’re now pulled into a court case sparked by Hannah’s suicide. We’ll also be getting more backstory this year as her classmates and family members begin to heal and recover from the trauma of her loss. The performances from all are strong in this series and it’s a very worthy watch.
