New This Week on Netflix: September 29th, 2017

New week, new titles. What’s better than pumpkin spice this weekend? The Netflix Original. From movies to docs to series your bases are covered. Have your fill of apple picking and corn mazes and then put on your comfy socks and get settled in. It’s movie watching weather!

Big Mouth Netflix Original

Before this series even aired there was plenty of controversy from soccer moms everywhere clutching their pearls and fainting at the thought of their precious children watching this show. That should be reason enough for you to watch it right there. (For REALS, moms. Check a rating before you start screeching.) This show is about puberty and all the grossness it contains. It’s super raunchy and at times will make you squirm, but it’s smart and funny and full of great comedians. Watch it. If only to make a raging parent madder.

Gerald’s Game Netflix Original

We can’t seem to get enough of Stephen King lately. This movie adapted from his novel of the same name is more about the horror inside than the monster under the bed. Declared unfilmable (if you read the book you’ll know why), it’s performance driven and plays on our own worst fears. The scariest movies aren’t filled with chainsaws and masks, they’re the ones that sneak up on you while you’re quietly living your life.

Def Comedy Jam 25 Netflix Original

Iconic is a great word to describe Def Comedy Jam. It launched the careers of so many stars that there are too many to list. Started by Russell Simmons in 1992 and aired on HBO, Def Comedy Jam was what you did on Friday nights when you got home from doing whatever it is kids did on Friday nights in the 90s. (I’d tell you, but you’re better off not knowing.) It’s a reunion and a tribute well deserved.

Long Shot Netflix Original

This is the amazing story of how an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm saved a man’s life. I honestly don’t want to even tell you too much about it. It’s that astonishing. I’ll just leave you with this:

“Every few years at a party, I’ll tell the story of how I got a guy off a murder charge,” he concludes. “It’s maybe something I could impress a date with.” -Larry David

That’s prettaaay, prettaaaay, prettaaaaay good.

Did I miss anything? Let me know in the comments! Happy weekend and happy streaming!
