The Last Kingdom – Copyright BBC America/Netflix

With only 26 brand new titles, this is the quietest week that Netflix UK has had for a while. Even though there isn’t a large number of additions for this week, there’s definitely a lot of quality over the quantity. With the return of some fantastic brand new seasons for some Netflix Originals, you’ll have more than enough to survive the weekend.

The Last Kingdom (Season 3) Netflix Original

The epic Viking-drama returns for its third season and the first exclusive worldwide release on Netflix. The previous 2 seasons had aired on the BBC and BBC America respectively before airing on Netflix. The Last Kingdom is based on The Saxon Stories by renowned author Bernard Cornwell. Netflix’s answer to HBO’s Game of Thrones, The Last Kingdom is a fascinating take on a period of English history.

Young Saxon Osbert is orphaned and enslaved by the Danish after the death of his father and brothers. Under the banner of Ragnar the Fearless, Osbert is renamed Uhtred and raised as a Viking. Despite his title as a slave Uhtred and Ragnar had a loving father-and-son relationship. Ragnar is murdered by the exiled Viking Kjartan and the village is burned down. After being framed for the death of Ragnar and the burning of the village, Uhtred has no choice but to flee to the last kingdom not under Danish rule. Fleeing to the kingdom of Wessex, Uhtred begrudgingly allies himself with King Alfred the Great.
