Well, it’s certainly been a strange week for new additions on Netflix UK with the vast majority of this week’s additions are Turkish movies. I have to admit, I don’t know much about Turkey’s movie landscape so if you do then please feel free to comment with your suggestions of what to watch!
First up his week we have the classic 80’s film “WarGames”. David accidentally hacks into a top secret super-computer that just happens to control America’s nuclear arsenal. Thinking he’s playing a game, he unknowingly starts lining up missiles towards Russia and innocently starts the countdown to World War 3…
“127 Hours” is based on the true story of Aron Ralston, an American climber. While climbing in Utah a boulder falls and crashes into him, trapping his arm stopping him from moving. In the scorching heat and cold nights, Ralston spends a number of days reminiscing about his life, his friends and his family before realising there’s only one way to free his arm…
Irish comedy “The Young Offenders” has been a popular addition this week. Conor and Jock, two teens, hear about a capsized ship that has shed it’s load of cocaine bales – with a value of €7m they realise that amount of money could end their troubled days. Not really thinking things through, they decide to steal two bikes and go on a road trip to the coast while being pursued by police.
“Peter and the Farm” is a fascinating documentary about a farmer in Vermont. Secluded and distanced from his family and friends he has a lot of memories from over the years. The work is hard, but Peter has grit and doesn’t give up. Although with his life of regrets he often suggests that the filmmakers use his suicide to help tell the story. It’s hard to describe the documentary other than as being an amazing character study, and not necessarily just about farming.
For the younger viewers this week we have the fun animated film “Two by Two”. Two clumsy animals head to The Ark only to find that their type aren’t allowed on. So they sneak on board and end up on an adventure that not only finds them new friends, but also finds who they really are.
