New Releases on Netflix UK (16th December 2016)

Published on EST

Ho ho ho, Merry Netflixmas! Well, Christmas is nearly upon us and Netflix UK have added a couple more Christmas movies this week as well as a load of new TV content and documentaries. So, without further ado here are this weeks picks.

First up are the Christmas films “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” and “A Wish for Christmas”. “I’ll Be Home for Christmas” (not to be confused with the 1998 Disney film of the same name) follows Jackie, a District Attorney and single mum, who is hoping to wrap up her final case to spend time with her daughter at Christmas. That is until her estranged Dad turns up out of the blue and old wounds need to be healed.

“A Wish for Christmas” sees Sara, a relatively quiet office worker, come up with an amazing Christmas initiative – only to have it stolen by her boss. Lacking the courage to confront her boss, she asks Santa for the strength to face up to him. Santa grants the wish but gives Sara 48 hours to get things sorted; but will that be enough time?

Set in the 1800’s, “Bone Tomahawk” is a western with a gruesome twist.  After a number of settlers are kidnapped from the town the sheriff and a few other locals go on the hunt. What they find, however, are a clan of cave-dwelling cannibals and a lot of unexpected horrors.

Now onto the TV additions. A lot of ITV shows have been added and/or brought back such as “Benidorm”, “10,000 BC”, “Endeavour”, “Cilla”, “Jericho”, “Safe House”, “Lewis”, “This Is England 90” and more. A number of Korean TV shows have also been added.

A strange new Netflix Original was announced a few days ago with very little in the way of publicity, even now on the website the description is simply: ‘The OA is a new drama series starring Brit Marling and directed by Zal Batmanglij.’ Sounds intriguing? Well, here’s the trailer:

And to finish up this week we have a couple of documentaries. “Rats”, possibly not for the squeamish, is a documentary about, you guessed it, rats! Rats are persistent little critters that have survive various catastrophes and this documentary gives an insight into their world.

“Asperger’s Are Us” is a documentary about an american comedy troupe where all the members are on the autism spectrum. It’s an amusing, yet serious, look at how the group got together, how autism affects them and the problems it can cause. The documentary was filmed around the time they were planning their final performance.
