This week’s big hitter is the arrival of “Beasts of No Nation”, the first Netflix Original feature-length film. Based on the 2005 book of the same name, the film follows Agu – a young boy in a West African country in the middle of civil war. When his family is torn apart Agu gets picked up by a mercenary group and trained to be a child-soldier.
Vampire mockumentary, “What We Do in the Shadows”, is an amusing look at life as a vampire in the modern world. Keep up with flatmates Viago, Deacon and Vlad as they decide whose turn it is to wash the dishes and watch as they struggle to get into nightclubs… It’s a fun watch and is very cleverly done.
A few TV shows have also had new series added: Season 4 of “Homeland”, season 6 of “Archer” and season 3 of “Reign” (with each new episode being added every Saturday).
Another film worth watching is “Super”, as recommended by my barber a few years ago! Similar to “Kick-Ass” the film is about a nobody who decides to take on crime himself. There are many comedic moments but it is much darker than Kick-Ass. It’s a great film to watch and is a welcome break to the usual superhero movies on our screens.
Two children’s series have also received new seasons: Season 2 of the Madagascar spin-off “All Hail King Julien” has been added along with season 2 of “Some Assembly Required”. “The Muppets” from 2011 has also made a welcome return.
