New Releases on Netflix UK (17th March 2017)

Published on EST

Welcome back to another week of What’s New on Netflix UK and, wow, what a week it has been! The mid-month additions have brought us nearly 100 new additions this week – mostly movies, but also some great documentaries and new TV series.

I can’t start without first mentioning that the latest Netflix Original series as “Marvel’s Iron Fist” was added today – the final series before The Defenders where Iron Fist will star alongside Daredevil, Jessica Jones and Luke Cage in an epic superhero showdown. Iron Fist is a kung-fu series with a supernatural twist that fits in nicely with Daredevil Season 2.

Onto the movies now and the most popular additions this week have been “The Big Lebowski”, “The Nice Guys” and “MASH”. “The Big Lebowski” is a cult classic from the Coen Brothers where a lazy tinpin bowler called Jeff Lebowski becomes mixed up with a gang after a case of mistaken identity. “The Nice Guys”, a comedy starring Ryan Gosling and Russell Crowe, sees the pair investigating the death of a 1970s porn star and uncovering a comically dark conspiracy. “MASH” is a satirically comic look at a team of army doctors in the Korean war.

Other movie highlights include “Shame”, “Mamma Mia!” and “I Capture the Castle”.

I’d like to introduce you now to the oddball that is neither a film nor a TV series: “Mystery Science Theater 3000”. This show is pretty unique in that you are essentially watching a cheesy B-movie with amusing commentary from the hosts and their robots. A collection of 20 B-movies are available now and Netflix will also be bringing it back as a brand new Netflix Original in April.

A lot of great documentaries from National Geographic have been added this week including: “Hunt for the Abominable Snowman”, “Inside Pint Sized Preachers”, “Inside the Muslim Brotherhood” and “Inside the Mobs Bloody Valentine”.

One documentary of note is “Notes on Blindness”. Based on the audio recordings of academic John Hull, who went blind in 1983, the documentary goes into a deep and detailed account of blindness and how it affects people.

Lastly, for the younger viewers and families, we have “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” and “Igor”. “Igor” is an animated movie telling the story of a hunch-backed lab assistant who dreams of becoming a famous scientist himself. “Paul Blart: Mall Cop 2” sees Paul and his daughter heading to Vegas for a rare holiday; but he ends up back in the action when he accidentally ends up mixed up with a plot to steal a priceless art collection
