Another week of amazing new additions to Netflix UK and definitely something for everyone. So, without further ado here are my top pics for this week.
First up is the cult Mel Brooks comedy “Young Frankenstein” starring the late Gene Wilder. Frederick Frankenstein, the grandson of the infamous scientist, lives in America but despises his family history – constantly trying to show people he’s not insane. He heads over to Transylvania after inheriting his grandfather’s lab and soon discovers the secret to reanimating the dead perhaps wasn’t as insane as he first thought…
The British zombie flick “Rezort” has been added and brings a new twist to the genre. After a zombie outbreak is contained and humanity is almost wiped out, the living are now in control again. When the occasional zombie makes an appearance the authorities quickly dispose of it. A number of the zombies are taken to a special resort where punters can take out their revenge and hunt them down. It’s a carefully controlled island and nothing is left to chance – think Jurassic ark but with zombies instead of dinosaurs. And, just like in Jurassic Park, things go wrong and the zombies go on the rampage.
2012’s “Seven Psychopaths” has made a welcome return to the action-comedy genre. Colin Farrell plays a screenwriter who is struggling with his work so his friends decide to help him out. They don’t help in a traditional sense though; instead they steal a gangland boss’s beloved Shih Tzu. Now he knows what it’s like to be hunted down, he can try and write a film about it. It’s dark, it’s funny and it should be watched.
In TV this week we’ve had a couple of new updated seasons. “The Musketeers”, the BBC drama series, is set in 1630’s France and follows D’Artagnan and co as they try to protect their king and country. Season 3 is now available.
Season 2 of Netflix Original anime series “Voltron: Legendary Defender” has also arrived today.
For the younger viewers and, let’s be honest most of the older viewers too, we’ve had some classic 80’s cartoons added. Season 1 of both “He-Man and the Masters of the Universe” and “She-Ra” have been added this week. Both series have 65 episodes and hopefully their 2nd seasons will be added at some point too. Be warned though – it hasn’t aged too well – but it should still be a great blast from the past!
